Day 4: Train & Akihabara 9:00am Ate breakfast (toasted slice of bread with cheese and ham, coffee, water), took shower, talked to Ate Reci
11:30am Left house to go to Ate Reci’s old apartment in Haraichi (the suburb…not many stores around like in Warabi, which is Ate Reci’s current apartment)
12:00pm Ate Reci taught me how to buy a ticket at the Warabi station. She also taught me how to navigate around Ueno station. It’s like an airport. Everything is guided by signs (Japanese & English).
12:30pm We ate McDonald’s. I ordered a Big Mac. The fries are thick and really good!!
1:30pm I saw Ate Reci’s old apartment. She gave her keys to the staff and the staff guy inspected the room. Ate Reci told me about apartments that can be rented for a week or a month. I will need that information when I come back to Japan. Ate Reci taught me how to buy a payphone card and a Suica card. Suica card is like a Chicago card. Since most stores do not accept credit cards, Suica is accepted as payment in many stores. Ate Reci and I went shopping at the Ueno
station; it’s like a mall.
2:30pm AKIHABARA!!
The land of cheap electronics!! I love this place! There’s a lot of stores based on electronics! There was many really cute small laptops for $500. I want them! But I already have a good tablet laptop. The cellphones are very advanced.
I also bought the electronic dictionary that includes English, Japanese, Tagalog, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, etc. It even has pronunciation sound. It wasn’t $10. Hehe…Ate Reci accidently said $10 and not $100. I bought the most updated, so I paid $188.
I didn’t realized that I dropped my camera and these 2 really kind people followed me, just to return my camera!! That was so sweet! Ate Reci said that they were Chinese. Hehe…just like Jon.
4:00pm The bakery is really good. I really like the chicken potato bread. It was so delicious.
5:00pm Ate Reci and I went back to her apartment (Warabi). I called my mom. I greeted Hide, “Happy Birthday.” We talked for a while and Ate Reci and my mom talked for a long time. Skype is great!
8:00pm Aimi comes home. We talk for a while. Then, we went to the convenience store to
drop off my suitcases ($40). My luggage will be sent to Narita by March 17th, so I don’t have to worry about bringing them to Narita Airport by myself on March 18th.
10:00pm We go back to the apartment and Ate Reci shows me the map of Tokyo which contains Sophia University and many landmarks. She also told me that the TBS Building has an ice rink. I will ice skate there. I will find a map and the train guide book at the Airport on Wednesday.
12:00am I talk to Jon on the phone. He makes me really happy when he says that he misses and loves me. I love and miss him too.
Note: The times are just approximate. If you want me to send you a postcard, write me a private message with your address. I’d love to send you a postcard!
