Fort Worth Cattle Drive
Only in Texas would they still drive cattle through the middle of the city. Welcome to Fort Worth y'all.
And what a town! Our Texas experience so far has been amazing. We have loved every moment and that’s thanks to the people and landscapes we have meet and seen.
Our Fort Worth experience was around the Historic Stockyards area. The day started with a longhorn cattle drive, with 13 longhorn cows and a couple of cowboys. They drove them from the market, down the main street and back to the market again. It was very cool and made us miss home a little.
From there we explored the stockyards; lucky for us it was market day. However the selling process was a little difference from the Pakenham VLE. They had a room full of men who were bidding, shouting different prices, and buying the cattle that were shown on TVs. So you actually don’t walk around the yards, pen by pen, as the cattle are sold like back home. Just to let you know they were good looking cattle too. Within the stocks was a small museum which gave the history of the town and area.
Next on our list was the Cow Coliseum. It was built in 1908, as the

Lucky for us it was Friday, so we booked two tickets and were excited about the evening to come. The next stop that we weren’t to miss, according to the information centre was the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. It includes 75 men and women who have influenced the rodeo or western lifestyle in Texas somehow. It may be cowboys, cowgirls, rodeo clowns, horse trainers and even a man who made boots. Also in there they have an amazing collection of carriages, wagon and sleighs from difference years.
Before we headed to the Rodeo we decided to have some dinner, and when in Texas they only place to head is a steakhouse. I had a New York Style Fillet and Stephen had Ribs. It was so good. We ate so much we could barely move to get to the rodeo. But we did.
The Cow Coliseum and the Fort Worth Rodeo was fantastic. We had some much fun and enjoyed watching everyone from those competing to those in the crowd. The evening started with National Anthem country style. Then the bull riders, followed by a

It was a very funny competition, this poor calf running, the children just ran in hoards, finally cornering it. The same competition was ran later on with children aged 2-6, and this time they used a sheep. It was just as funny and the sheep just gave up and waited to be caught. The evening then included roping of a calf and barrel racing and a final set of bull riding. It was so much fun. We had hoped to finish the evening off to a visit to a local honky tonk, but I forgot my ID and they wouldn’t let me in. Apparently I look 21, how flattering.
I hope the photos show a little bit of how much we really enjoyed Texas.
Lots of love
