Arrival to city
Hillary stepping out from the train station. So we finally made it to Sydney! The flight was a little long, but by now Hillary and I have gotten quite comfortable on planes and fell asleep with little trouble.
A little warning Loyal Readers, our blog posts in Australia will not be as detailed (describing every single day) as they have been with England and Thailand. Why you ask? Well, to put it simply, we’ve got a lot of time in the country, so we won’t be doing something interesting every minute of every day. Don’t worry, Hillary and I will still be bringing you the good word from down under, but don’t be surprised if we skip a few days here and there because truthfully, it would most likely sound like “So we got up sometime after noon, did some laundry, took a nap and grabbed some McDonald’s” Exciting, right? Lol!
Anyways, back to Sydney! We used our free train passes from our SWAP program to get to the hostel. The city’s trains are like a subway, but double decker like Toronto’s GO trains. The hostel was walking distance from Central station, so it made for a quick little walk with our big bags. But, we

First look at our new hostel. couldn’t check in since we had arrived at 10:00am and check in was at noon (even with our delayed plane!). So we dropped off our stuff and took a walk. First impressions? It’s a lot Toronto, only there’s a nice cool breeze, not the sticky mugginess you’d find in Ontario summers. First thing first, we searched for the bank. Since we had set up bank accounts while still in Canada, all we had to do was pick up our cards. We then grabbed some food and checked into YHA Central. The place was very nice, but much more like a hostel than any of the places in Thailand. Though it’s just a little shocking when you pay over twice as much for a accommodation, and instead of a private room with your own bathroom, we both had to stay in separate 6-bed dorms separated by gender. But the common areas were definitely nice; big lounges, lots of people, and some huge kitchens for those who buy groceries (definitely one of the ways to save money).
After settling in, we checked out Sydney’s most famous attraction… The water that flows backwards in their toilets! Haha! I’m kidding! Of course what

Wider look at the hostel. I meant to say was the Sydney Opera house! Funny thing I didn’t know until I saw it for myself? The shells are basically three distinct structures! Weird that whenever you see it in photos, you imagine that they must be attached side to side or something… lol Anyways, took PLENTY of photos. We then grabbed a bite to eat, and called it a night for some needed rest. We may have slept on the plane, but it’s not quite the same as sleeping in a bed.
