Hello again!!

Stewart Island is just south of the South Island and is New Zealands third largest island. The ferry took just under an hour I think and was a little bit bumpy... we noticed they were handing out ear plugs which we thought was a bit strange as noone was really going to go to sleep but it turns out thats a crazy sea sickness trick... put an ear plug in your dominant ear and it actually worked... I think!! :o) There you go... I'm just a fountain of knowledge nowadays! ;o) We were looking forward to hiring mopeds to discover the island but as our luck would have it pretty much all the roads were closed so there was no point, not to mention the fact that there was a HUGE bond on the moterbikes and considering most of us had never ridden one before the chances of us falling off or even scratching one wasn't entirely unlikely! So instead we got a speed boat over to a little island where we had a beer on the beach, socialised with the friendly birds, went on walks and climbed trees! :o) That evening we had a yummy meal in the local pub and then watched a film! Even when we didn't really do much it was always soooo much fun with the others that every second away from them I was worried I was going to miss doing something or a hilarious joke! I remember that night having a reaaaally quick shower so I wouldnt miss anything, but by the time I got back the boys had been and played basketball with some little local boys.... gutted!! I wanted to go!! Hehe! Our group really made New Zealand even more amazing than it already was! :o)

The next morning we got the ferry back to Bluff where we were picked up again by the Stray coach. We then headed along the southern coast to the remote Catlins wildernis area, where we were supposed to see seals, penguins etc. but they had obviously heard we were coming and left because we didn't see a single one! :o( I got a bit bored so started doing my seal impression just to amuse the others, but what I didn't quite forsee was all the Japanese tourists (who were stood a loooong way away - apparantly not far enough though for my foghorn voice hehe!) coming running over, thinking that it was actually seals, with their cameras to take pictures of the seals they were so desperately looking for! Whooops!! I did feel a bit guilty when I saw how dissappointed they were! :o( We then cruised through the rugged area towards the Scottish town of Dunedin.

OK... next one ....
