Doug during his first nebulization, sandy got shouted at for taking this pic.
After a pretty long wait at a bus station outside chumphon, which to us felt like it could be somewhere (nowhere) in the karoo, we boarded a bus to krabi. Originally thought it was 5 hours then was told seven hours but it ended up being a 4 hour trip, that was a nice suprise!

We had booked a room at chan cha lay guest house for 250B a night, clean room and a shared bathroom...cold water. That evening we found a restaurant/guest house which served great western and thai food and showed movies...and gave you free internet! hence we are eating here again tonight. They also offer tours at cheaper prices (normally travel agents get a commision from tours so guessing they have just reduced theirs a bit). We booked a tour tomorrow where we visit 5 islands, snorkel and get a buffet lunch and transfers for 1400B for the both of us. R200 each.

I (Doug) decided i was officially sick and needed some medical attention. We caught a taxi to krabi hospital which is similar to any goverment hospital back home. They had an international clinic and we got a nurse and a helper/information type of

girl who did all the forms and stuff. After seeing the nurse and then a doctor and having x-rays and after explaining i had had the cough for about a month i was diagnosed with an asthma attack..(lost in translation)..and was nebulised twice. Got a whole lot of drugs, antibiotics, anti inflammitories, cough medicine and cortisone..the drugs only cost 98B but rest cost 1900B luckily they accpeted credit cards!

We then made our way back to town, got a take-away tuna sandwhich with chips and headed for the beach (30min). The scenery of the area is very beautiful, steep limestone cliffs and the emerald sea looks more like a lake it is so calm. The beach is pretty big and wasnt too crowded, although this was the most people we have seen the whole holiday! It a touristy area with mc donalds, burger king, the pizza company(looks yummy!) and a swensons ice cream shop (even yummier) but we resisted temptation.

After lazing in the sun and sea for a while and building a mini sand castle we headed back to krabi town and met some other back packers from canada and USA. Tried to help them find accomodation

but most budget places are full by the evening so they had to settle for a 500B room.

We will let you know how the island hopping goes tomorrow.

Loved Krabi too
Hi Doug and Sandy I got the blog address yesterday when at Brian's bday party. We loved Krabi. when we were there the flat sea had lovely swells and the hotel said to be careful the sea is very rough! They should try the SA beaches. As a consequense we could not go tho the islands so missed that. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and see you later this week. go safely Liz
