I arrived in Bangkok late Friday night, October 24th and was welcomed by Thailand's steamy humidity and its rainy season. It rained everyday and on most occasions I was found in the middle of it, I wish I had packed the gumboots!
The week in Bangkok was filled with orientation, meetings and preparation for the job. Our host kindly introduced us to the popular Thai culture of eating and some of the popular local cuisines. We also became familiar with using the BTS. Fortunately I managed to fit in 2 muay thai sessions at Jitti's gym and visit Lumphini park. The heat and time difference knocked me around most of the week and all of us were quiet tired most days from all of the orientation.
As we didn't have a lot of free time I used any opportunity I could to shop for the things that I wouldn't be able to find up in the rural towns. Activities besides orientation during my week in Bangkok included:
- Jim Thompson's house
- Ferry to Khoasan Rd
- Visiting Jitti's gym
- Discovering the malls, MBK and Chatachuk Market
- Visiting the Bangkok Refugee Centre
- Drinks at Amorosa,
Khao san river ride
Very crowded on the boat. which had a spectacular view
- Walking through the flower market
