So we have been having a great old time in Palolem, almost like a proper holiday really and have really enjoyed meeting tons of people. Catherine bonded with an indian who has obviously either watched loads of Eastenders or talked to loads of english backpackers as he spoke like a market stall holder. I thought he was a twat straight off but humoured Catherine only to be confirmed right when we had discovered he had added loads of beers and his dinner to our tab. Payment back was given when Catherine tried to change the music, cutting off all sound througfhout the bar and earning Sanjay a slapping from his boss. Since we never saw him again we think he may have been sacked. Our last memory of him was him trailing us down the beach pretending to cry and making us promise to come and buy stuff from his shop the next day (which we didnt). Then there was Ciaron who i spent a whole night dribbling on about music, only to discover he was a music producer in London and knew far more than i did. That said we did spend a few hours listening to my ipod while
i tried to explain why The Christmas Album and Kelly Clarkson was on there . (thanks Michelle that birthday cd keeps on coming back to haunt me!).
Then we had the fortune to run into Rob, the paramedic we met on the plane to Mumbai and his mates. We declined some kind of sardine barbecue but met up with him and his friend Martin later on that evening. Martin is also a paramedic from england who has opened a bar in Baga up the coast. I dont fully remember much about the evning as i had sampled Feni the local brew of coconut sap, possibly the worst thing i have ever drunk in my life. It tastes like pure petrol and i could barely touch it but ended up back on the kingfisher anyway. At some point in the evening the must have extracted a promise to have breakfast with Catherine and I but crawling in at 7 i was seriously sleeping when our bedroom door bursts open, Martin and Rob bundle us off to breakfast down the road. I had on my burger tshirt with BEEF written on the back which they found hilarious and called me all day.
Catherine was TK as her chavvy sunglasses looked like they came from TK Maxx. They then drove us to Agonda beach about 10k away where we had such a nice day. Well half a day for me as i sat dribbling under a palm tree til about 3pm and my hangover subsided. Catherine, being the alcohol monster that she is got back on the red wine at about midday and as always when she is drunk, makes anyone who is there take photos of her. All said and done, Agonda is the most beautiful beach and there was noone there but us. We watched the sun go down and generally had a great laugh. Martin and i, being the sober ones more so as Catherine and Rob, completely twateed disgraced english tourists everywhere by hanging out of teh back of the open top jeep singing Wonderwall at teh top of their lungs.
Later on that evening we met up with some more partners in crime, two irish lads Kevin and Dennis who were travelling round the world and living in Oz for a year so we had loads in common. Cue two very rowdy nights where i had the misfortune
to try and drink HoneyBee, the Indian brandy. I dont think i will ever be able to touch brandy again as the hangover was brutal. From our travels so far it must seem that we only meet couple of blokes but we havent actually met that many girls on our trip as they either dont come to india on their own or travel together in groups of ten and arent interested in leaving their circle. We did meet Molly, a lovely german girl who never seemed to get drunk no matter how much she drunk, and Josh, an aussie guy who we had to babysit for two hours while he came up on (obviously strong) pills.
That pretty much wraps up our time in Palolem: messy, messy, messy but the most fun i have had in ages. Just before leaving i got an indian mobile and sim which never seems to work, and sampled the delighgs of the indian chemists. They literally will sell you whatever you want. Will remember this when i come to leave.....
