This is my home for the next 7 days ..
Yes, finally you will see some pictures of my journey! I've stayed here in K.L. for almost 7 days now and I have to say it's a really nice town. Although it is not that easy for me, as an European, to handle the heat ... :-) First thing I learned: Move slowly, don't hesitate! I also still have problems adopting to the time, so I'm tired during the day and can't fall asleep at night, but it is already getting better.

I finally arrived at the hotel at about 5 in the afternoon on the 8th of October and I was really, really, really tired. I have been up for more than 28 hours, traveling to Munich in the morning, then spend 5 hours waiting at the airport of Abu Dhabi - which is rather small and it's very loud in there and no space to sleep ... just uncosy seats with no place to lean the head on ... I just sat there, trying to sleep, but although I was very tired, I just couldn't fall asleep ... then continued to KL, another flight of 7 hours and when I finally catched the bus, I really almost slept

the way to the City Center. At the center I had to change to a shuttle-service, but I missed it, because I didn't know exactly where to go (in fact it was already waiting right behind the bus ...). So I asked one of the staff and he called the driver and I could see him driving backwards the one-way street, ignoring all the buses, coming towards him ... :-) So I finally catched it and was brought to my hotel.

As you can see at the pictures, the hotel is really okay and I'm really very central. The first day I went to the Petronas Twin Towers (as every brave tourist of K.L. ;-) It is really amazing to see this buildings and yes Maria, you definitely missed something, when you came to K.L. last time and didn't see it! (Sorry, but this had to be said - and you can always return to K.L. to see them in the future). Amazing are also the shopping-possibilities there: 6 floors of shops - you get anything you want. All I wanted, when I was there, was breakfast (at 4 in the afternoon). So I bought a coup of coffee

and something to eat, at a cafe called San Francisco (at least I think so). 30RM (about 6 Euro) was cheap compared to Austria, but as I would get to know within the next days, rather expensive for K.L. I Also had a look at the KLCC Park, the Tabung Haji Building (which really has a funny shape) and at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with the Aquaria (but I didn't went in). I continued to the Heritage Center and the Cultural Craft Museum and finally ended up at the Bintang Walk, which is a street with lots of shopping-possibilities. In the morning, I also was at the Tourist-Info, which is also a nice building and a few meters before I boy stopped me and told me that I'm a lucky guy, than he wrote something on a piece of paper, crumpled it and let me hold it. I had to blow at it and tell him my favorite flower - I didn't know any special, so I just said "rose". I had to tell him a number between 1 and 5, so I said "3". He did let me look at the piece of paper in my hand and

he had written "rose" and "3" on it ... ... ... how disillusioning ... okay, okay, at least I know now, that I'm the absolutely standard-guy :-) Of course it all ended up in begging for some money. He said he would pray for me and this will increase my health and I will earn money ... yeah, I know ... gave him 10 Ringgits and that's it. :-)

On Friday I had a cold shower in the morning - the heater just didn't seem to work. When I was finished I recognize a "strange" switch in the main room, that seemed to have no function ... but when I used it, I recognize a little light going on at the heater in the bath ... damn! Must have been just too early (noon :-), but at least I was awake. Next thing I recognized was that I have no cutter for my beard - I left it in Austria, because of the weight, but it's impossible to shorten my beard with the manual shaver ... so I will have to find a solution for that within the next days ... meanwhile I let it grow (the "normal" beard

I can shave manually, of course). Went to Chinatown first, to bargain for a belt (because I keep constantly loosing my trousers ...). You can see at the pictures, that Chinatown "Petaling Street" is quite big here and it is even roofed! I guess you get anything here, but all replicas of course - so you need to bargain - that's quite funny :-) Tried to find the SZE YA - temple afterwards, but didn't succeed ... okay, forget it. So I went to the old railway station - that's quite a nice building. Although getting there wasn't that easy, because I didn't find a pavement, but I managed on the street (ignoring the cars honks, just like the inhabitants :-) After that I had a look at the National Mosque (but only from the outside, because of the opening hours) and the Dayabumi Complex. I wanted to see the National History Museum, but there was sign saying "closed with the beginning of November 2007"... So I continued to the most touristic spots, like Dataran Merdeka (some kind of public convention-place) with the impressive Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Royal Selangor Club near by. Also very close by is

Shopping on 6 levels within the Petronas Towers
the Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin and the High Court. This was the time, when I became hungry, so I looked for a place to eat - on this search I passed the Jamek Mosque and finally stopped at the Central Market (Pasar Seni). Got some really good food there for only 6 Ringgits. Finally I realized that the hotel I nearly booked, the Swiss Inn, is situated directly at Petaling Street (Chinatown) - lucky me, I choose the other hotel, because there is not very much silence at night ...

On Saturday I took the local train (KLTR) to the Putra World Trade Centre and some shopping malls there. Nothing special. Spent the afternoon hanging around in Chinatown and some parks, having thoughts about what is important to me in my live - no worries, I wont bore you with this things ;-) Read at the news, that Haider (Austrian politician) died at a car crash ... hm ... ... The next day I went to the National Planetarium, which was quite interesting. Malaysia has invested quite much in bringing some people into outer space. Continued to the National Museum, where you get some really interesting information

Sculpture in the Garden of the Petronas
about the past of Malaysia and also the Colonization-time. Found an interesting sign, that seemed to follow me - stating "Reggae Bar 10m" ... saw it several times, even after 2 or 3 blocks, always still only 10m away ... :-) Went to the Starbucks near by in the evening and read the travel-guide for Argentina and Uruguay - this made me happy and curios for to see this countries. On Monday I went to the ASEAN Sculpture Garden, saw the National Monument and spend a lot of time at the KL Lake Gardens, also seeing the Deer Park (poor deer, at this heat :-) and the Orchid and Hibiscus Garden. Checked my mail and got a mail from an Malaysian guy via CouchSurfing. He just had found my profile and read, that I'm in KL and that I stopped working, for traveling through South America. So he wrote me an mail if I need anything and if I would like to met. I answered and soon later he called me and we meet at Chinatown in the evening. He is really a interesting guy. His name is Lizan and he want's to go to Europe next year and travel

through the countries, just like I will do in South America. So we had lot's of things to talk about. He has to leave KL the next days because of work, but maybe I meet him again afterwards.

Today (Tuesday) I was at the KL Tower and spent some time at the Starbucks, reading my travel-book. There I spoke with an Malaysian guy, his name is Dan. He told me about Malaysia and that he is studying communications and is making researches about the behavior of young Malaysian people and there addiction to the western style. Was a quite interesting conversation. He also offered to show me "pure" Malaysian live at the country-side - I'll think about that - got his phone-number and e-mail, maybe if I have the time, I call him. In the evening I met Calynn, she has just returned from her business-trip to China. She's really a very nice girl - we had dinner and a really good conversation. Tomorrow afternoon after work, we meet again and I will move from the hotel to her place. She has also already planned some trip with friends within the next days to the north of Malaysia. I'm really looking forward to it and for sure will make lots of pictures, to keep you informed :-)

But I'm pretty sure, that I wont write that much in the blog in the future ... this is very time consuming - I mean, I have the time, but I like to spend it on other things ... :-) So I guess I will let "speak" the pictures more in the future (and also I wonder if anyone will read all this ...) ;-)

Maybe I should have had such a thing at home, while trying to learn horse-riding? Maybe it would have helped me to learn it faster? :-) But anyway, I prefer Panja!
