Writing this on a french keyboard, in a Paris apartment, in a country not my own.
Wow.
So there was flying, and landing, and train-ing and bussing; turbulance, rain, snow, a baguette, and now, trail mix for dinner. I can't believe I made it in one piece. But unless this is some sweet, sweet dream, I am pretty well settled in Paris.
I got off the metro, luggage lost, but a group of classmates found. We squezzed into a cafe and talked, and figured things out. I spilled the school director's drink with my giant backpack. He gave me a baguette. This is not the first time I'll feel like a big, clumsy kid. I feel like a kid in the way everything is new, mysterious, and unknown. Navigating the metro, buying a pastry in french, and seeing snow whip by as I ride the train are all giant milestones at this moment. I try not to clomp around grinning like a goofy american, but my face is glowing like a christmas tree.
Later at dinner one of the students tried to gross me out by ordering a dish that was pure raw meat with a raw egg cracked on top of it, and then enjoying it happily. Definatley a first there. I stuck to a yummy apple thing. I got a lot of funny looks dragging my bigger-than-me luggage down the street and on to crowded busses. The people seemed to have a sense of humor about it, and I even got helped up a couple flights of stairs. The apartment is just the right size, no more room than one person really needs. They say it's on the longest street in Paris... All I know is it's across from the resturaunt where you can order that egg thing.
I got a whirlwind tour of the school as well, and figured out some of what I would be doing there- More of that tomorrow.
Milestones for tomorrow? Acquiring some groceries, making some art, and who knows what else. I've got pictures, but the computer I'm using won't recognise my camera, so I'll have to wait till I can take my laptop to a hotspot.
And now I'm going to bed!
Happy, Safe, and far far away,
-kelly

Kelly! Incredible! I literally laughed my face off when I read the part about the egg thing and how the resturant is across from your apartment. That's so hilarious! I'm so glad you are in Paris. LUCKY BUM! I'm going to apply there next year. Good luck and all! Make me proud with your carnet de voyage. - Edward
