hello Everyone,
sorry it took so long to write ive been pretty busy with evrything going on here. Not last weekend but the weekend before that i went to Champagne france with my third host family and it was amazing.
We set out together, Me, my host brothers Laurice and Gigi, the mother Catey, the father Serge and also his parents and his fathers brother so all in all there were 8 of us. The whole time we stayed at this beautiful little CHateau in the Countryside and each night ate an amazing four course meal, apitizer, main course, cheese platter and dessert; not to mention the Champagne; Needless to say i was in Paridse. I had a cute little room to myself which was nice for a change because at home here i share a room with my host sister Margerie. In the morning we woke up early to a breakfast of croissants and jam and then set off for our day. We visited the Cathredral of Reims which was the biggest and oldest Cathredal i have ever seen. All the old French Kings were crowned there, and even Joan of Arc was there to watch the crowing of Charles.
It was brethtaking standing where all this history have took place. Afterwards we did some shoping and had lunch outside in the sun of a resturant. I had the Kiche of Loriane which was really good. after that we went to taste some CHampagne and even got the chance to see how its made. They have a huge press that squishes all the grapes. The countryside of Champagne is that of ancres of ancres of vineyards, and small little villages.
Anyways it was an awesome weekend and i cant thank Serge and Catey enough for inviting me.
School is still going really well for me, i try my best to be as outgoing as i can and to talk to others as best as i am able to. I already have started some good friendships and people seem to enjoy my companany. My favorite classes are Expersion Orale which is pretty much theatre without a stadge, P.E where we are doing gymastics right now and also History cuz the prof is really funny and nice and i can understand most of what is going on.
The bathrooms at school are pretty dirty they dont even have soap....which is degutant-gross
The school itself is really confusing to navigate, its four stories high and has two different towers and also other passage ways too so its difficult to remember where all of my classes are, luckily the students are really nice and look after me.
for lunch evryday i have a sandwhich theres only four kinds, ham, cheese, salad-which has some sort of meat in it, and american-which again has some sort of meat in it and eggs. Anyways there good so i dont complain. Lunch here isnt till 1 pm so i get pretty hungry waiting that long. Another thing is that when a teacher is absent there is no substitute, everyone just goes to the Local to hang out which is cool.
THe classrooms are really low tech, they have only a chalkboard to write on and not even any text books only lots of handouts for some classes and for others you take your own notes. The kids here are really organized becuase they have to be and they study more than students in Canada do i think. Us twelth graders dont even have a locker so we have to carry all our stuff with us, there is
a place to put it but im scared of people stealing so i just carry everything wuth me. Ive noticed that the math here especially is really hard, there doing more advanced stuff then we were doing last year. All in all school is hard work for the kids here and the students in canada should feel lucky that school for us is cleaner, funer, and easier.
For me i dont do pretty much any of the work the other kids do, all school is for me is to try concentrate what the teacher is saying and when the others have to do work, i work on french grammar and memorize more vacobulary.
The past weekend i had a three day weekend which was pretty nice. Thursday i slept over at my third host families house so that on Friday i could hang out in Charleroi with my host brother Laurice and a few of his buddies. Saturday i had a kayaking trip with the other exchange kids which was fun. The weather was actualy really nice and we all had a good time kaying on this little river that even had some pretty sweet rapids. Sunday was a day
of relaxation and i just enjoyed the lest of the sun and tanned a bit. For now on its going to rain pretty much every day and get cold so i was happy to enjoy the sun while it lasted.
Im happier than i could have imagined here and i know that its only going to get better, as my french gets better.
Anyways thats all i have really to fill you in on. I hope all of you are well and happy and i miss you all
Love becca xoxoxo
