On the trail towards my first 14'er hike (a mountain above 14,000 feet high) great views like this were everywhere
After my first year away from home, it was a great pleasure to be back in Denver for most of the summer. There are a lot of great highlights and things I was able to enjoy. Overall though, being with the important people in my life was by far the best part.

My first adventure in Denver entailed hiking a 14, 270 foot mountain. Being back in Denver for only a week, I also thought it would be a great idea to make bets in who could climb faster. While I am glad to say I won, it did come with a price. I don't think I have ever been so winded in my entire life. The hike with a couple of great friends was certainly a lot of fun. As for good advice when doing a hike like this, you have to bring lots of good food (which I think applies on all excursions though), when climbing, take 15 steps, stop and rest for 20 seconds, then keep repeating. It's important to never get exhausted, because then it just gets tougher. Of course, you also have to watch the weather. Beyond that, seeing the mountains from this view really

During this summer, I started exploring possible land investments. The idea will be to soon purchase some acres in Colorado, between Denver and the ski resorts. Year by year, add a house and other needed service to the place. I am considering making this my home when I return from traveling. Perhaps that will be the last entry for this blog, when I move in and settle down. Hmm, at least I would try to settle down.

Another nice time this summer was going camping with another good friend. We went to Rocky Mountain National park, and camped most of the time. A rather funny story is that we planned on being out for a few days, but the first day was so rainy with lightning that we had to rough it at a Best Western. Having Mexican food and lots of margaritas helped put us in the camping mood, to a degree. The next days though we were able to get out and hike within the park. It was about a 6 mile hike in, and the campsite was next to an amazing waterfall. An important tip though,

to those of you who may try to have campfires in this park, think twice. It could result in a $125 fine, ouch. The park was great though and it was very refreshing to be in the mountains that contain so much life.

Beyond the camping and getting out from the city, my summer included working out/surviving with Mr. Tony and the gang, a lot of reading, fixing the family house up, playing original Nintendo games with my brother, a lot more reading, eating home made food and a lot of other great things. Teaching is certainly the job for me, because the summer off back home is perhaps the greatest thing I can think, besides beer.

To all my family and friends back home, I look forward to another great summer only 9 months away! Till then, take care!

One of my friends on the hike had his dogs haul the food. This is a great idea and now I need to get some dogs!
