Having packed my whole bedroom and kitchen - at least this was how I felt - and everything else that I could think of into my trusted Honda Accord, I was finally off for my trip. I made the final stop at Costco for cheap gas and 36 bottles of spring water before I drove onto the I-35 heading South.

Today would be mostly driving - a 600 miles trip from Overland Park, KS to Amarillo, TX. There was not much to see along I-35, except lots of open fields or rolling hills. The feeling was very familar. It reminded me of my many trips to Iowa when Christine was still in college and I was driving up I-35 to see her. Those are good old times - I especially remember the fun of driving in the cold wind and the thick snow. Anyway, I was driving south this time. Not too long after I left Overland Park, I heard from the radio that a snow warning was in effective for Kansas area with expection of 1 - 4 inches of snows. I was able to just got out in time to avoid another snow storm.

Since I departed late, by the time the sun was set, I was still only one third the way through the journey. It started to rain lightly. I knew it was part of the the snow storm. I pushed the accelerator harder, trying to get out from the area affected by the storm. I drove right pass Oklahoma and finally reached Texas. The humidity was high. I found myself driving in misty fog. Luckily, the visibility wasn't too bad. I was able to drive about 75 miles per hour.

All the sudden I saw a giant cross eracted right by the road side with spot lights shining directly on it. It was about 3 to 4 stories high. With the fog, there was a strong weiredness to it.

After eight and half hours, I finally reached Amarillo at about 11:30PM. I was so tired that I fell into sleep right after I checked into the motel.

My car's mileage meter read 66747 miles. I added about 603 miles so far.

*laughing ... that cross totally blew me away as well. You're traveling across this unbelievably flat area which seems like it goes forever and you can see that cross from really far away.
