5th August - Amy's Birthday!!!!!!
Amy turned 18 after 13 hours on a Greyhound bus on the most uncomfortable journey so far! Woo! There was a very freaky man at the back of the bus where we were who stared at me and Amy the whole time so I didn't get a wink of sleep.
We got to Sydney at 5am in the morning! We couldnt check into our room as it wasn't ready...Security was very tight - we has to use swipe cards for the elevators, the toilets...everywhere! We managed to get a pass up to the first floor and slept until 8am on giant bean bags in the kitchen area. Amy rang mum and dad so they could wish her Happy Birthday! They said she should get her hair done for tonight as she is only 18 once!

We walked to Darling Harbour to get some breakfast, my choice of course! We found a small cafe which over looked the Harbour and had a very yummy 2 course breakfast! First course being Eggs Benedict and Salmon, and the second was a big stack of pancakes which said happy birthday on them,
woohoo! 😊
We walked around then walked up to Sydney Harbour Bridge to see what we would be climbing in a few days! We walked to Sydney Opera House, which was very impressive but not as impressive as how I originally imagined. Then walked through the Botanical Gardens, which were really nice. It was a beautiful day too, which made it all the better!
On the way back we decided to watch a movie, The Dark Knight. Lucy wanted to see Heath Ledger in his last film! *Sniff!* It was a good, but incredibly long film, we both desperately needed the toilet half way through but did not want to miss any of it..
It felt a bit of a lonely birthday as I didn't have my friends here so I invited lots of people in our dorm to meet up with us later.
We spent a few hours getting ready for the big night out, and met up with Karen downstairs ready to walk up to the SkyTower Restaurant. When we eventually got there, we had our photo taken then took the lift right up to the top for our meal. The views from the top were
so amazing, you could see the whole of Sydney at night! It was really spectacular,we weren't expecting anything that good! The tower rotated really slowly so we were careful not to leave our bags on the edge incase they disappeared!
It was a huge buffet, which consisted of about 5 courses. There was everything there! We piled our plates high as we watched the views and I had my very first legal drink of some sparkly white wine, yum.
Later on in the evening, the waiter brought out a small cake with a few candles on and Lucy and Karen sung happy birthday to me.. 😊 😊 😊 Karen wanted to put on a few more candles to add up to 18, but we got told off. For safety reasons apparently.
The photos were quite expensive to buy, but Karen bought me a postcard photo of all of us for a birthday present and gave me a card too, which was very nice of her.. 😊 The desert section was about to close, so Karen grabbed a few platefuls of cakes and some napkins and started to wrap some up for later....... It was gone 10pm by now
and we were already late to meet up with the boys from our dorm, ah oh.. We were the last people to leave the restaurant and got the waiters to take lots of photos of us after our meal.
We walked to Scruffy Murpheys, an Irish pub, to meet up with two of Karen's friends. We all treked up to Scubar (this was reconmended to us by our hostel) only to find that they were closing because they did not have enough people there! So obviously the guys we were supposed to meet.. had moved on. We decided to grab a taxi and go to Kings Cross, the more lively part of Sydney, to find World Bar. As Danielle was supposed to be there tonight too. The bar was really cool and there were plently of people there and good music playing! There were a lot of men dressed up as women to recieve free drinks all night. We splurged on some yummy cocktails which were served in teapots, very english! Then did some dancing, even to the awful (but entertaining) Karoke later on.
We met Danielle, and some of her friends, and danced all night until 4am
(our latest night yet!) because it was closing. I was a little dissapointed, and could have stayed out all night. But it was a Tuesday afterall..
Lucy says she is very happy that Amy can now drink legally. This is the start of a very good week....
