We stayed another week in La Junta following Santa Fe. We were able to visit Bent's Fort, which is just down the road from Cody's house. We also spent time with the animals on the farm, saw "Mame" at Picketwire, the local theater, and got to hang out with his cousins from New York. Here are some of the La Junta highlights.

It looks as though Cody has discovered something. What could it be? Is it possibly the only trading post between the Mississippi River and the Pacific Ocean along the Santa Fe Trail. I believe it might be!

Apparently, all that discovering and exploration takes it out of you (we haven't even made it to the fort yet).

Ah, we finally made it!

This is the "general store" where all the trading took place between Indians, Mexicans and Americans who were traveling along the Santa Fe Trail. I really liked all the colors of the beads hanging from the ceiling.

Here is where the blacksmith worked. You would bring your broken wagons, tools, etc. to him, in order to be fixed, while visiting the fort. Check out how big the bellows is.

Toothache? Headache? Sick to your stomach? This man (on the left) knows the cure (typically consisting of induced bleeding, vomiting, or excretion).

This is the interior of the fort. The big press in the center of the courtyard is to press the furs and skins that are being traded and packaged for easier transport.

Nickey is trying to shoot the approaching army. Good thing she paid close attention when Grandpa Linscott explained how to shoot a cannon!

Here I am, jogging with cantaloupes. Does that make them "runnin' 'lopes", Leo?

One of the kittens being hand-raised, for reasons we won't get into. This is "Lunesta," like the sleep aid, because he sleeps all the time, everywhere.
