Warm Up Cycle in Rockies Foothills
Continental Divide close to Cadomin AB in Edmonton?
Not sure about that. Today...cycling around town buying last minute bits and pieces for the trip...and a bee made a kamakaze move straight into my lip, stung me...then continue on its merry flying path. I suppose I was lucky not to swallow it. Spent the rest of the day trying to ask questions to store people whose eyes were glued on my bulging lip.
Mongolia - Russia (Siberia) Aug 3 - 31, 2008
I am heading back on the road...looking forwards to spending a month cycling with fully loaded panniers (read tent, food, sleeping bag etc) with Ruth (from Barcelona...we cycled in Tibet last year...see Blog) through some beautiful stark landscapes, spending time chatting with nomads in their tents (Gers), and visiting the lake and some islands close to Irkutsk Russia. Crazy type of "holiday"... (i.e., not your average beach chair with margarita in hand!)...the roads are really really bad and muddy...lots of vodka (read local men with vodka)...and more mosquitoes than in northern Canada. Oh yeh, did I forget to tell you about the local speciality? boiled mutton? Am armed with chili to help it slide down.
My flight was changed...now have 31+hrs delay in Beijing before heading on to Ulan Baatar...would love to see the city but not 3 days before the Olympics. Guess I will be sleeping in the airport.
Looking forwards to another adventure!
Will send an update when and if I can...internet access will be a challenge I am sure.
Ciao for now,
Susan

Love mutton, hate mosquitoes
They serve the mutton with some very good spices (hot!) that overcome the meat flavour quite well .... Ride fast to avoid the mosquitoes.
