El Remate

Upon arrival in Flores the following morning and suffering from severe exhaustion we were again hounded by local taxi men demanding to bring us around the world!! We quickly fled to a nearby cafe for some breakfast and managed to find a bus going to El Remate, a small town about 30mins from Flores and closer to the Mayan ruins at Tikal.

We stayed in a place called Mon Ami, nice enough, rooms weren´t great and it´s about a 2km trek from the main road but fabulous location right on a cyrstal clear lake. We did some more swimming and then decided to head to Tikal.

As one of us (mentioning no names) "misplaced" the malaria tablets we had been taking, we were forced to start taking the seriously strong ones that we had for South America. Stupidly (probably caused by aforementioned exhaustion) we took all four tablets on an empty stomach and then set off for the 2 km trek to the main road in the midday heat (approx 35C)!!! We barely made it to the top of the road let alone Tikal and had to take refuge in a local restaurant for 2 hours until normality returned!

Once we tackled the journey back to the room, the rest of the day was spent lying in hammocks, swimming and sipping cocktails!!! (I found out that I passed my exams so we had good reason!!)

As we had booked tickets for Belize the following morning we decided to give Tikal a miss! We would love to have gone and that was the reason for heading so far north but it just wasn´t meant to be! Maybe next time!

Hey girls, thanks for the updates, I´m already trying to plan ahead to see where we´ll be for the final to try and line up an Irish pub to watch it! Mar, it was probably the trips in both the Micra and Monica that prepared me for the driving over!! However if you wish to comment on Minnie´s driving skills and speed awareness then you´re on your own! Realise that we´re very behind on the blog front but as you may know the two of us have decided that it´s much more fun to sitting around in clinics and hospitals than sightseeing so that´s how we´ve been amusing ourselves! All fine now though and I have it on good authority that the next draft of the blog is currrently being composed! Not sure how long that will take though considering every time I look at his screen there is a car or a house on there!! Sorcha, belated happy birthday babe! Did you have a good one? Long time no chat, fill me in on the antics please! Murph sorry haven´t replied but haven´t been near a computer for a week now. Hey guys oh my god looks like ye are having a ball so glad ye are getting to see as much as ye are, it all just sounds so fab and by the pictures it really dose look amazing. No news here really just getting ready for the All Ireland session we are all off work the Monday so let the games begin. It will just be the usual Kytlers and then the few old locals but what the heck we will enjoy it. I am sure I will have plenty of goss for you eims I hope anyway. God ye are missed here anyway I have only just got used to this blog but it is great ye are really getting around and fast aswell when do ye hit Oz then. Anyway must go and do some work keep safe and we look forward to more updates!!! Love Sor
