so we've been here for a few weeks now...it's a fun town and the area is extremely beautiful. we are surrounded by three volcanoes and lots of farmland (much of the food from the market is local). we ran low on money so we picked up jobs bartending at one of the only irish taverns in central america...the illustrious reilly's. we pull in an absolutely astounding 7 quetzales an hour (just shy of one dollar)...but it's tips that ice the cake (okay, so there is not too much icing, but we have been able to save a few bucks). other than that we have been trying to stay busy, checking out the various ruins of churches about town (earthquakes over the past 400 years or so have laid waste to many of them), running out to the country, working on motorcycles, going to the market...we even caught a guatemalan circus one evening (it was actually kind of depressing, the lion was sick with diarrhea, the ostrich and monkey looked pretty pathetic...but as a whole we can at least laugh at the experience). oh yeah...arin and kelli left us around the 23rd or so of june, but we were able to make
the time to hike part of the way up the pacaya volcano...and for lindsie and i to experience lava for the first time...crazy...molten rock only a few feet away from us. ......nate
well I guess I should add my two cents in. So antigua is a quaint and colorful tourist town about a half hour from Guatemala city. I do like this place, its cute, safe (for the most part), has a wonderful market with cheap produce (such as avacados and bananas, what more could you want), surrounded by three volcanos that peak out from the clouds every once in awhile, and gorgeous churches around every corner. I do have to admit I am a bit anxcious to get back on the road. Working and living in antigua is great and all (and we were lucky enough to get jobs at one of the best tip-earning bars in antigua) but I have a hard time justifying taking a 6-month leave of absence from the job I love back home just to end up working in a smokey, rowdy bar again (been there done that). It´s actually amazing how being employed in a bar in a forgien country really isn´t
much different than working in one in the states. The only difference is you can´t understand what some of your customers are saying (oh wait, that does happen in the states) cause they speak spanish waaaayyyy too fast. To sum it up, we´re enjoying ourselves while we´re here...but we cannot wait to get back on the road and move on to another country. I was hoping to be somewhere new by my birthday...but after getting some unexpected bumps all over my legs it looks like that may not happen. About a week ago I started getting these red bumps that hurt to the touch all over my legs. They weren´t your average mosquito bites and they aren´t bed bugs...so after a couple of days of dealing with the soreness, we decided I should probably go to the doctor to get them looked at. So the last couple of days we´ve been spending our free time at the doctor´s getting blood, pee, and stool tests done (yaaaaee for me). Turns out I don´t have any type of bacterial infection and that it´s supposedly common for women my age to get these weird bumps below the knees (really!?!?). So...I don´t think I´m
lava up close...
reaaaallllly close dying 😊 But it´s been annoying and my legs look like crap (the bumps are going away, but they´re turing into bruises as they go). Anyway to get back to the point, the doctor was little expensive (compared to what we´re making) so we probably won´t be able to leave before my birthday. We hope to be on our way to Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica by the end of August. In the meantime we have plans to go to El Salvador for a few days so we can check our motorcycles out of the country (it´s required) and then hopefylly go up to Lake Atilan (a must see in guatemala) for a few days soon.....so I´m definately not complaining!!!!! Life is still great, and I know we´re lucky to be safe and enjoying different countries and cultures...even if it does mean getting some ugly red bumps all over my legs 😊 Well, I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful summer...and we will post some more photos of antigua (the market and chicken buses) soon. we love to hear from you all so please keep in touch! Love ya, lindise

Nice!!!!
Wow, all I have to say is wow! You two are definitely taking life by the balls and I like that about you two. Becca and I have always wanted to check out an active volcano, that must have been something! I look forward to your postings. Bill
