On the night train from Budapest to Buhcharest I met one of the most amazing people not just on this trip but possibly in my entire life. Andras, our transylvanian sweetheart! We weren't on the train long before he had pounded upon us with many many questions! We were sharing the sleeper carriage with him and this other hungarian lady who made and sold perfume for a living. He told us of his country's history and everything about his own life until now. He spent a long time telling us of how he was a hungarian at heart living in Romanian territory...His way of describing it to us was..."we are like you irish, and these romanians are like those English" ha ha,..an interesting comparison i must say but i didn't dare argue him on the subject! He was passionate about the past and thought it was important to leave a country when traveling with something else, not just a pretty view of a city. One should Learn a little something about the place, leave knowing where these people came from and what has made them the people they are today..... He was kind, helpful and easy to warm to....He shared his
Romania
I think this was the one part Of Bucharest we saw that really lived up to what we expected to find here... food with us and even gave us some of his sister's birthday cake....It wasn't long before we were exchanging numbers and emails...He was eager to learn about our country and of our travels so far..We didn't leave him empty handed, we made sure to tell him all we could...Of both the good and bad times of the past few weeks....I will never forget those hours with Andras..I have never felt so welcome...
We arrived at Bucharest and Andras helped us with directions and left us with his contact details in case we needed him again during the day...The main thing we struggled with funny enough, was just finding where the hell we buy our bus tickets..but soon enough(like make 50 mins..BENEATH THE MELTING SUN) we realised we had to buy them at the newspaper stand..hmmm..so on the bus we realised we had no idea which stop to get off at because the roads were under construction and there was no longer any way of telling what the fourth stop was...However i took a chance and asked just about everyone on the bus for help and a kind old lady pointed me to another woman(kind of had a teacher's presence
Sweetheart
Andras shares his pictures and stories with me..He tells me of his past...and In return we tell all we can of ours... about her) and she told me.."you will get off the bus with me" and i did..and within long she had pointed me right to my hostel.....So far....FEELING VERY WELCOMED...
When we got to the hostel the man here was, my god,,,he was just...like..the MOST helpful person ever,,,i really couldn't keep track of all that he was telling me..a whole lot of information being thrown at me..but in a good way of course..He recommended a nice indian restaurant to eat that evening..We took his advice and followed through...Once our meal was finished this man sitting near us randomly introduced himself and asked us about our travels.....INTRODUCING.....Krishan George..By the time we had left him we were inundated with offers to visit him again and were even given a business card to contact him in advance so we could stay in one of his guest houses in the countryside...My god, this man was amazing...I think he may very well have been half english because he spoke with a slight enlgish accent and was fluent,,,,He's so well connected with important people here in the city that he even know's the irish representative's here in Bucharest on a first name basis.."Barry" he informed us......FEELING
City Centre
5 million people were cleared out of the center in order to make this impressive piece..but..it does have a way of grabbing your attention thats for sure.. SO WELCOMED I'M ALMOST SETTLING MYSELF DOWN RIGHT NOW..ha ha
The next day we saw some of the city.....One of the largest building's in europe..The most beautiful park i think i've ever seen, so simple and yet breath taking at the same time....Romania wasn't all what we expected..only at some parts were we taken back, for example at the underground paths to get across roads and what not, escalators were burnt out etc....but otherwise no...pleasantly surprised...every kind person we met though did advise is to come back one day and see more of Romania..and i would agree...it is the first country that we think we may have chosen our destination somewhat poorly..the countryside seems far more inviting but stilll i can't regret coming here..we would never of met these ridiculously friendly and kind people...
I was blown away by how easily people warmed to us here in Romania. They welcomed us with open arms and i still felt a touch of their warmth as our train pulled away from the train station...
