Edit Blog Post

Well sorry its been so long since the last blog.....but its hard to keep up with when you get to a town and want to see everything....and not spend time on the computer (which also costs money). We have met up with two friends from Bellingham, and have been to two more countries since the last time we posted. The drive out of Oxaca was amazing and I couldnt stop turing my head towards the wonderful view of cacti forests (much different than Baja), rivers, mountains and the amazing sunset behind me...in fact there were a couple times I think I almost went over the edge of the road trying to look at the views...but thankfully remained on the road crusing through the beautiful country. After Oxaca we stayed in a really cute and colorful town called San Cristobal which I would highly recommend to anyone travlling through mexico. We would have spent more time there but were in a hurry to meet our amigos in the Yucatan, so we enjoyed the market and some good food for only a night. The next day we went to Agua Azul (Blue Waterfall) which wasnt very Azul due to all the rain the area had gotten, but it was definately an impressive waterfall. That same day we charged through a tropical downpour in the mountains and made it safely to Pelenque. We found a really neat place called the Jungle Palace to stay at and were able to score a cabana in the jungle for $10 a night. The next moring we were awakened by a howler monkey (which I could swear was right abouve our cabana) screaming his lungs out for a good half hour. It was the best alarm clock weve had the whole trip. We explored the ruins of Pelenque the same day (see pictures). TO make a long story short (which I am very bad at) we finally made it to Tulum in the Yucatan a couple of days later after breaking down at a gas station one night and spending another in Merida. We met up with two good friends just south of Cancun and figured out a way to fit them on the back of our bikes. So, we have had a couple passengers for about two weeks now. We look quite hilarious with four people and four instruments (a quatro, ukulele, banjo, and fiddle) squeezed onto two bikes...but it has worked thurs far so we will keep rollin with it. Since then we stayed in Belize for about a week (in Crooked Tree, Placencia, and San Ignacio). It was nice be be back in Belize cause everyone speaks english, but it was pretty expensive so we couldnt stay too long. This past friday we worked our way into Guatamala and have been staying at a real cheap place right outside of Tikal. We met some really neat people staying at the same place who started a non-profit which can be looked up at human-synergy.org. These guys were really cool and had a pig roast our seond night there (the pig was slaughtered and cooked right there) which was a great way to bring in Nathans 27th birthday. Yesterday we spent Nathans birthday at Tikal..it coulndt have turned out any better. While sitting on top of the second highest mayan temple in the world...a rainbow appeared right above the main plaza of the ruins while Nathan smoked a birthday cigar...it was picture perfect. Then we proceeded into the jungle and saw spider monkeys, tucans, woodpeckers, leaf cutter ants, and coatis. The jungle pretty much camne alive as we walked around...it was like we were the only people in the entire park. Even though that was my second time at Tikal....I dont think I will ever tire of that magical place...... After the ruins, we headed to a restaurant on Lago Peten Itza (where I had arranged the day before to have a cake made) for Nathans birthday and had cake, beers, and dinner and swam in the pool as the sun went down over the Lago . Today we drove in to Flores where we will hang for the night...then head to some hotsprings and later Antigua..........

Miss you all and love to hear back from you on the posts, lindsie

Quite a trip...
Hi Lindsie and Nathan, Thanks for the update... it must be a chore to carve out the time to post the latest - so I appreciate the effort. Your descriptions of Tikal make my memories of that place come back - I want to hear a howler monkey again ! Did they pave the road yet from San Ignacio to Tikal ? If not, it must have been quite the time traversing it 2 to a bike !!! Stay safe and put up the latest as you head south! ~ john
