Seen on the steps of the Carson-Brynn House We had a relatively uneventful day of driving today. After stopping at Dunkin Donuts (again) for breakfast (at least I'm mixing things up a bit...today I had my veggie omelet and cheese sandwich on a multigrain bagel instead of the usual croissant!), we set out on the Florida Turnpike toward Kissimee, only to discover a short way up the road that there is quite a high toll ($13!) to take that route. We decided to detour to the 95 instead and drove that highway up to Melbourne, cutting across the 192-E to Kissimmee. We arrived at our destination at about 3pm and scoped out some motels before settling on the Ambassador Motel ($35 a night). It's certainly not the nicest room I've stayed in on this trip, but for $35 I can't justify saying anything too bad about it.
After checking in, we headed down to Main Street to check out the shops, many of which had closed by the time we got there. At the end of the street we came across some cool looking buildings and parked to have a look. The main building was the Osceola County Courthouse, and directly across from it the original courthouse building
Breakfast!
Yep, Dunkin Donuts...again! (which certainly had the more impressive architecture). There was also an interesting house on the adjacent corner that is boarded up and awaiting renovation. I bet it will be a sight to see once they (start and) finish it. We cruised around the back streets admiring some of the houses in the area before heading back to the main drag (Vine Street/192-E).
There is a Friendly's restaurant next to our motel, and as soon as I saw it I remembered their combo deals (free dessert!), so we decided to stop there for dinner. I had a western BBQ turkey cheeseburger with fries, and some Hunka Chunka PB Fudge ice cream with peanut butter sauce for dessert. And yes, it was all extremely fattening, and worth every calorie!
Our motel has laundry machines so we decided to do some washing while we had the chance. After heading to the Walmart down the street (our first one since we've been here!) to get some single-load laundry detergent and bottled water, we threw our clothes in the wash and headed out to the park that's located behind the motel to play on the swings and wait for our clothes to wash.

Seen at the rest stop along the 95 N I was tempted to go swimming, but there were several older men at the pool and I am not much of a social swimmer. Maybe tomorrow...
Heading to Kissimmee put us a day ahead on our itinerary. Tomorrow I think we'll head toward Tallahassee and then figure out where to spend our extra day after we see how far we get tomorrow. Maybe we'll spend a day in Panama City Beach, or maybe an extra day in Alabama...what is there to do in Alabama???
Still no wild alligator sightings since last Wednesday...we considered heading to an alligator farm but they are really overpriced and probably far too touristy. We'll see...as far as other wildlife, we saw a few squirrels, a few lizards, and two strange looking birds that may or may not have been turkeys.

Thanks for the Alabama tips! I'm not sure what we'll end up doing yet. We might stay a day in Biloxi, Mississippi since it's right in the middle of Mobile and New Orleans. Yep, and I think we ate at more than one Friendly's if I remember right. The free dessert was definitely the best part!
