Kate: So again the drive from Yosemite to Vegas was long (surprise surprise) so we decided to stop off after around 6 hours on the road and then complete the journey the next day. We stopped in a random little town called Barstow and found this really cool motel for the night. You really feel like your in America when you stay in a motel, car outside the front door- little bit seedy- i loved it!! plus our room had a round bed! ha ha very 60's chic!
Because we had made good progress on day one of driving it only took around 3 hours to get to Vegas- we were both so excited. Driving through the desert landscape to get to our destination it was wicked! We actually got to Vegas a day early because our plans had changed - thank god we had an extra day because we absolutely loved it! The first evening we headed straight for 'The Strip' and it is something else! You just can't describe how huge all the hotels are and how extravagant they are. The first one we walked through the MGM Grand had a Lion enclosure in the centre of the
casino!!!! ( see photos) Apparently they were descendants of that roaring lion at the beginning of the old-school films????
Anyway the other hotels are just as amazing, you have the Paris Casino like your in Paris, New York, New York with the statue of Liberty outside and a roller coaster running through it and The Venetian that has a canal inside with Gondola's floating through the hotel, taking people on trips with the punters singing Italian Classics like 'when the moon hits the sky like a big da dada.... that's amore!! well you get the idea! There is just so much to see that at first we didn't really know what to do with ourselves so naturally we hit the bar!! The rest of the night was, for me, a bit hazy after that to be honest- apart from Steve meeting Enzo Calzage!!!!!- man he was sooo chuffed- oh and going out for out for a really nice meal in Paris but the rest hmmmmm can;t really put my finger on- opppps. I do remember attempting to play one of the slot machines though i think i may have even won 4 bucks- woo hoo!!!- needless to say my
head was pretty sore on Thursday morning- Doh:-(
On Thursday we went to check into Caesars Palace on The Strip and oh my god it was incredible. It was a bit pricey but totally worth it you have to stay in one of the big hotels when your in Vegas- it is so much fun!!! Our room was massive with a huge bed, double sinks that even had a tv in the bathroom and a telephone by the loo!!! wicked!! i wish i had taken a photo when Steve and i decided to wash our dirty clothes in the sink with my travel wash in such a royal bathroom- ha ha...classic.
Friday we decided to go to the Calzaghe Hopkins weigh in at Planet Hollywood. It was brilliant- I have never seen so many Welsh people in one place in all my life. The queue was huge and although we were there for a good 2 and half hours I think the weigh in lasted around 10 mins- oh well the atmosphere was great and it got us excited about the fight the following day! The rest of the day we spent at the pool- just chilling
The Lions
Actually inside the casino at MGM Grand! out- total bliss. I know some people may say that Vegas is tacky but although I agree it is over the top it is all done so well and I absolutely loved it! There is just so much to do and see and if I had the money I would have loved to go and see one of the shows that they had on- oh well next time maybe!
On our last whole day in Vegas we decided to get up early and head to the Grand Canyon- it was really really hard to get up early when you’re in such a comfortable bed but we managed it which I was really impressed with. In the evening we headed for the bar to watch the fight. It was a great atmosphere again and the Casino that was hosting the event had it on on every single screen in the building- it was great and it just added to the evening that Calzaghe won! We ended the evening with another amazing meal and I know we are both going to be gutted to leave such a fantasy land BUT we have so much to still look forward- I can’t
wait……
