Once we had caught up on our beauty sleep we ventured out and headed straight to the Khao San road the travellers hub of Bangkok. We went back to our favourite little cafe and sat on the balcony watching the freaks and weirdoes go by. They were in no short supply. Prize for biggest weirdo went to the guy in Doc Martins, a kilt, no shirt but covered in tats, sporting a blonde mohican. He did have some serious competition though!

The big bottles of Singha were going down smoothly and we soon had quite a collection of bottles on our table. As evening came and they started clearing away some of the day time stalls across the road we noticed they were setting up little mobile cocktail bars in their place with lots of plastic chairs around them and a big sound system. There were at least 3 of them all vying to have the loudest sound system, the most flashing lights and the biggest crowd of revellers. We downed the rest of our beer and decided to give one a go. They all had the same prices (80bt a cup of strong cocktail or 200bt for a big

plastic bucket full of strong cocktail (£1.30/£3.28)) so we headed to the closest one and pulled up a plastic chair. Upon closer inspection of the menu we found out the only bucket available for 200 was samsong (local rum), cola and redbull (we weren’t sure if it was cola and or red bull but didn't fancy finding out so we ordered a bucket of long island ice tea, which was 300. Still a bargain. We were joined by a random English bloke called Nick who had been travelling around Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. He entertained us with stories of basketball playing monkeys, firing an ak47 for 50us dollars (for 100 he could have machine gunned a cow and eaten it!), he was also offered the chance to fire a rocket launcher at some poor cow for 500 dollars!! He also told us about his many drunken nights and listed the possessions he and his travel buddy had lost while pissed up! He also told us about a place in Laos where the was not much to do apart from float down the river in inner tubes and a little bar there where he was offered the “special menu” which listed

every drug known to man (plus a couple others!). We made sure he wrote the name of that place down for us :-)

Nick wandered off and we had another bucket then headed to the local discotheque. It was ladies night... We walked in (free entry) and the venue was amazing, good sound system and the dj high up on a podium. Unfortunately the music was shit, the place was empty and the drinks were expensive, so we walked straight back out and went back for one last bucket as they packed up the stall and chatted to the owner. This time I think they were trying to get rid of there left over booze as the bucket was STRONG!

Once we had finished that we threw some noodles down our selves (some even went in our mouths) and then headed to another bar where the were two guitarists banging out Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers and other classic sing along hits. We had a couple of beers and had a good old sing song along with the rest of the bar. We sounded great! That’s alcohol for you...

The rest is a blur but according to

This was taken in the guitar place. Note: The reason there are more pissed up pictures of Joe is that Mon was aways taking them! Not that he is a complete piss head.

The Evil Buckets of Samsong
Hey kids! Awesome to hear that you're back on the road! I was in Bangkok in Jan and I duly pulled up my little plastic chair and proceeded to drink several buckets of the EVIL concoction... I woke up the next day in bed with an uneaten plate of Pad Thai that was full of ants.... UGGGGHHHHHHH... and THREE snickers wrappers... Oh dear! Loving your new blog!
