Back “home” in Oslo for a little over a week. Tommy was waiting in the arrival lounge, buying himself a coffee when I came through. It was really good to see him. He had his car just outside and it didn’t take long to get to it and get on our way to his place. It was especially nice that he left the office early in order to get me. Once at his place I just hung out as I filled him and Napat in on the adventures of late. I joined in a shopping trip for food in Groenland and Toeyen because Napat was making a type of red curry dish that evening. I love curries if you didn't know. Jarle joined as well which was fantastic.
Easter vacation was starting so Tommy and Napat didn’t have to work and I could just continue chatting and relaxing. In the evening, I joined Tommy to visit Martin, who was celebrating his birthday. It has been a long time for me just to sit around with the men in a bachelor’s flat and talk "men talk". We headed to Bar Boka afterwards in Grueneloekka; an old favourite of mine very close
to where I used to live. It is a tiny retro styled cocktail bar which always seems to be busy. Beware... cocktails are especially expensive in Norway! The next night was spent was spent at Kokken Tor Jarle's in his flash bachelor pad enjoying his cooking and the recent contributions to Wittgensteinian studies. We headed out to meet Oyvind at the Dubliner and had far too many of 15 dollar a pint Guinesses. I ended up staying over because his sister, Camilla, squatted the sofa spot at Tommy's.
On Friday we had another dinner at Tommy's with the a good portion of the Johannessen clan, Tommy, Jarle and Camilla, whom I dazzled with my skydiving videos. While she is in Spain she plans to give it go now. Have fun! The roast lamb with all the trimmings was divine. It was needed for the next day since Jarle and I were to go to Tryvann to do some snowboarding. I had forgotten how hard it was as a first timer, so we didn't do all that many runs but the weather could not have been more perfect. I didn't mind cutting off early either because I spent more of
the night chatting with Camilla about life than sleeping. After the snowboarding, I heading back to Tommy's and had a well needed nap.
It was then off to the new Olympen to join Oyvind, Marta, Trond and Jarle for a meal and a pint. Others have been critical of the renovations, because it has become posh, but I liked it and was happy that it wasn't completed changed. Helen and some friends showed up later that kept the fun going until close... back to Jarle's again. It was getting a bit like tennis between his and his brother's. 😊 In the morning it was off to see Trond again plus Heidi and their son Henrik! We had a lovely walk along the river and stopped for a bite and a coffee at Fru Hagen.
I then made it out to see Toerrfesk (Ronald), Catarina and Noah and crashed an already underway coffee and cake party. I know Toerrfesk from when I worked at Freia in Oslo. I had the obligatory northern norwegian 8 black coffees in a row before having a lovely asian inspired tapas dinner from Catarina. During dinner, Marius phoned, who just got back from the
mountains. I had to take advantage then to see him as he was leaving for Narvik again soon, so he picked me up near Toerrfesk. Notorious with keeping in touch, he moved to Narvik without telling me... and his second son was named after me! I met Marius originally in Kiel when I studied there and he was my first contact when I originally moved to Oslo.
The following day it was off to Grueneloekka again to meet up with Thomas and Hedda for dinner. What started out a quiet dinner turned out to be quite a party with dancing and everything! That Ipody gadget to directly access your full music database is dangerous! On the last full day I got out to see Oyvind, Marta and Jenny for lunch and a lovely stroll around a local lake near Manglerud. It was then one last supper at Napat and Tommy's for Napat's delicious cooking and then Jarle's for one more time to discuss what the word "communication" means.
Many thanks to you all, I had a fantastic time although I miss not seeing everyone. I had to cut my trip a little shorter than I planned originally, but
you all know why!
