Hi guys.......

Guess what? Matt has been sick as a puppy since we arrived... it didn't bode well when he was taking paracetamol at Abi Dhabi airport, or when he was projectile vomitted on the plane, but you live in hope so when we arrived in Manila we hit the town and met up with Jay and Glynette and sank a couple of buckets of beer all in good faith, assuring ourselves it was just jet lag and tiredness. Well that wasn't our brightest idea and since then Matt has had a fever, raging sore throat and an aversion to sunlight and fresh air, preferring the comfort of a sweaty sarong in a dark stinky bedroom! Anyone who knows me well will know I am not the most sympathetic nurse out there but I have been trying my best and as usual Matt milks it!!

Jay looks great, has lost a fair bit of weight and most importantly appears to be contended and happy with his life here. Glynette is just as Issy described, really sweet and it is lovely to see them as a happy family together- bless! I had been busy clucking at the prospect of meeting baby Liam and in anticipation decided to buy him a huge fire engine toy that was a nightmare to travel with, but it went down really well and I still havn't got over the novelty of being called Aunty Vicki!!

Despite Matt being poorly, the last couple of days have been surprisingly productive, on Monday I had an appt with a charity the other side of town, with a guy called Raymund. Raymund is a human rights journalist who runs a charity working with the poor in his spare time, he is a really interesting guy and has gone out of his way to find me volunteering opportunities. He has offered me a teaching job in a school set up by parents as their was no governement school in the area 4 days a week and then 1 day a week working for a children's rights rehabilitation centre working with children who have been the victim of state aggression. Challenging without a doubt, but very interesting and exactly what I was after.

Then this morning Matt has had his first interview and it seems that the job is his if he decides he wants it. Its a big job with a lot of responsibility (15 engineers under him) but he is confident he can handle the work and the company were - so there you go, it looks like our plans have come to fruition!

Manila is not the greatest place, its pretty americanised, not an attractive place with not a great deal to do or see but it kind of feels like maybe its a place that grows on you as you get to know the people. We are both hungary for the experience of living abroad and now we have the opportunity, so it is feeling like a done deal at the moment.

There is a complete lack of photos and sightseeing so far.... but we'll ber hitting the beach on Thursday!

LOL xxx

Good to hear from you so soon.
Apologies Matt but I was in stitches reading Vic's e-mail, not necessarily at your miss fortune of you being ill but imagining Vicky trying to be sympathetic with you milking it big time. I really do wish I was out there as I miss J and GG so much and it really is such an amazing experience. Wow sounds like you have both had some excellent progress on the front - well done Matt - keep us up to date with anymore. Vic - good luck on the dress hunt, let us know how you get on. Matt - hope you get better soon. love to you both, take care and give J, GG and Liam a big hug from me. mwah, speak soon. xx
