Sigma Club and Resort
From the outside we thought we had made a good choice .... but The day after Christmas we moved from the Jomtien Garden Resort over to the Sigma Club and Resort, farther south down the Jomtien coast. After spending 2 weeks at “The Gardens” we were ready to move on.
We had never been to The Sigma Club and were quite looking forward to it …. that is until we saw the room!!! The grounds, the lobby, the pool and the registration had all given us a good “vibe” ….. but when we entered “the room” we weren’t thrilled.
The carpet was stained, the lights were few and far between , as well as just having a 5 watt bulb in each …( I didn’t even know they made light bulbs sooooo low in wattage)…. (there’s no way we could read by them), the pillows were like rocks, there was only one, yes one, plug-in for the whole room, and to top it off we saw mosquitoes flying about!!!!
Of course we complained (well not exactly complained but certainly let housekeeping know we weren’t happy) so we were brought two, not so new lamps (with the same 5 watt bulbs in them!!) and two
Sunrise from the balcony outside our room. The redeeming factor!!
Sunrise from our balcony at the Sigma .... only ONCE did I get up that early :-( new pillows.
Other things (like the carpet cleaned) were promised, but never seen, the whole time we were there.
As you can tell …… we weren’t that impressed with the Sigma Club and Resort but decided to stay our pre-booked time of two weeks instead of wasting time looking for something else and moving again.
The second day at the Sigma we travelled into Pattaya by Songtaew (two row taxi trucks) and headed straight to the Big C (the main department store for locals and tourists alike) and picked up extension cords, a “clip on” light, a couple 3 way plug-ins, dettol, some 100 watt bulbs for the lamps, clothes hangers and some house mosquito spray.
After getting settled in we felt better about the room and enjoyed its extra little alcove with a nice balcony and view, mostly of the grounds but with a little slice of Ocean enough to enjoy the sunsets.
After being at the Sigma a couple days we witnessed a distressed traveller at the front desk complaining that
Breaky at the Sigma Resort
The view and the breakfast room was really quite nice .... if only the food had of been hOT !!!! his wallet had been stolen. We both commented on how terrible it would be to have all your ID stripped away while in another country. Yes, you guessed it, it happened to us.
One afternoon Del decided to go into Pattaya alone while I read at the pool. He used one of the two row taxi trucks that pick people up anywhere along the main thoroughfare (20 baht per person) as long as there is room …. even if it means hanging on the outside. On the way back to the resort he used the same Songtaew but was the only one on the truck. Soon a group of younger people got on and squeezed all together to make room for them all …..............… and insisted on carrying on an inquisitive dialogue with Del ........... . Hmmmm!!! You guessed it ....... when he got off the truck taxi and into the resort he was missing his wallet ………….
Sooooo ………… the next few days we spent our time cancelling all the cards , phoning our Canadian banks and making arrangements to get new visa’s and driver’s licences etc, etc . …….. FUN!!!!
The breakfasts that were included with our room price were quite adequate … (international selection for Thai, Russian and British) ….. but nothing great unless you consider the pickled lettuce with egg one of your favorites !!!! Again the food wasn’t kept hot in the warming trays so we stuck mostly to fresh fruit (papaya, banana, pineapple, dragon fruit and watermelon), yogurt, freshly cooked eggs ( rather than the cold scrambled ones in the “warming” (ya right !!) trays , and toast.
The coffee was great …. but then we didn’t get a bad cup of Java anywhere in Thailand ….. always good and strong!!!
We enjoyed the pool (chugged back a couple books each there while we sizzled in the sun) and the beach walk along the shore in the mornings. We bought internet time for their wireless and got caught up on our correspondence on our lap top and generally whiled away the two weeks without doing anything too spectacular.
