To order a coffee (a caffe), you wander into an espresso bar. There are a minimum of two people that help you. The first is the person at the register - they take your order, ring it up and give you a receipt. Walk the receipt over to the bar, set it on the counter and say "Scusi." Though, I feel like an asshole - there really is nobody at the hostel to practice Italian with, so I've been doing a lot of pointing... baristas don't really like that.

I will continue to add to this list as I try more and more! Keep watching!

caffe - double shot espresso
the 'regular' espresso everyone is used to... except it's REAL, and the crema on top is silky, and absolutely amazazing! Served in a small caffe mug. Served on a saucer with a spoon.

caffe corretto - 1 shot espresso, one shot caffe/licorice liquor and a dash of ground chocolate (I think?)
I ordered this on accident; didn't realize it had liquor in it. The barista knew I didn't know what I ordered. Had the same flavor as an espresso, but with a kick that warmed up my belly. Served in a regular sized clear shot glass. Served on a saucer with a spoon.
€3.00

caffe freddo - chilled, sweetened espresso
Surprisingly sweet with no bitterness - this was an easy one to prepare for the barista. He opened the fridge, pulled out a pitcher, and poured the caffe freddo into a small clear juice/collins glass. As always, served on a saucer with a spoon.
€ 0.90

caffe ristretto - more concentrated espresso shot - uses less water at a higher temperature and higher pressure
This was interesting. I really didn't get much of a kick from this stuff, nor did it taste wonderful. It was bitter (I guess that's what's expected?), with a dash of creme on top ... super hot, but was able to shoot it after a minute.

cappuccino - we all know what this is, right? Coffee milk and foam?
I was actually moderately surprised about this drink. Many American cappuccinos are made with A LOT of foam. They'll serve it in a big paper -take away- cup, a double shot of espresso, three times the amount of milk, and fill the cup up with steamed milk. The cappuccinos I've bought have been two shots of espresso, equal milk and microfoamed milk up to the top of a small SMALL I SAY SMALL coffee mug. Was very tasty, and when I decided to try one of them around midnight, the barista gave me a funny look.
