We draft this sitting at Sydney airport having a coffee, having arrived
before the check in opened.

Melbourne

Since our last adventurous blog, we have explored marvellous Melbourne
and sunny Sydney.

We arrived in Melbourne on Friday 28 december, a day
later than planned, which meant that steve could not go and watch the
cricket as we were short of time. Which he was extremely disappointed
about. We were however met at the airport by a friendly face, that of our
friend Richard Leeman. Jan knows Richard from school days in Cape Town
and Rich and was also a harmony house alumni. Rich and his wife Penni
used to live in London, but immigrated to Australia 3.5 years ago (Penni
is originally from Perth).

We were whisked off to their lovely house in
Bentleigh (the Melbourne equivalent of mill hill- with better
transport). After showering and doing a load of laundry, we went off to a
traditional South African Friday night dinner, where Steve's meat craving was
satisfied. But at a cost, well everyone has to work for their dinner,
him and Richard and a few others has to move a very old and heavy desk
down a flight of stairs and round the house into a garage. But he said
the meat was worth the move.

Penni Tours

The following the Pennilee tour group kicked off, by heading off into
the centre of town. We starting with a drive around looking for parking.
Once found Penni-lee really got into her own, by taking us on a guided
tour of the historic alleyways of melbourne, finishing off in the
spectacular Federation Square.

Even though it was a sweltering 40 degrees, our tummys were beginning
to rumble, so we went to the famous Queen Victoria Market to get some
nibbles, we sat in the park near by and filled our stomachs, but also
flaking in the heat. So we headed home, luckily they have friends who
live close by, who had a delicious pool. So after a refreshing dip and
Steve and Rich reinvigorated by a cold beer in the jacuzzi we were off
again. This time to the famous Lygon street for a Nepalese dinner and of
course a decadent cake to finish the evening off.

These devils are ugly!

On Sunday we headed out for a drive to the Healsville Wildlife
Sanctuary. We had still not seen enough animals. So while Penni and Rich went
shopping in the area we went to see the infamous and ugly Tasmanian
devil, the endangered platypus and of course some more koalas. We met up 2
hours later and headed for Marysville in the black forest.
After a beautiful drive into the forest, we headed for Stephens Falls to have a
picnic lunch and short walk with some flies as an accompany. After a
brief stop at the famous sweet shop we headed off to the Yarra Valley -
wine country.

We wanted coffee and cake, but unfortunately all the wine
farms were closing, so it was home time without the necessary caffeine
addiction being satisfied. A busy and long day had been had by all, so the
visitors decided to make dinner and a chilled night at home was enjoyed
by all.

End of 2007

As we had exhausted our hosts we gave them Monday off and we headed into
town. Once there we took a tram to the excellent Melbourne Museum
where we spent a happy couple of hours. After a picnic in the adjacent
park we continued to stroll around melbourne and eventually went to the
moving image museum where we saw a bizarre and clever exhibition. By
this time we had wilted in the 41 plus degree heat.

That night was NYE and we had been invited to friends of Rich and Penni
for a bbq, who had also gone to school with Jan. Once again Steve had
his meat craving satisfied, as there was copious meat and salads. As
our host worked for a brewery Steve took advantage of trying a wide
variety of beers.

2008

2008 started as Jan means to go on ... On the beach! On another
sweltering day it was the only place to be.

This was followed by a trip to the funky St Kilda Street where ice
creams were had. From there we headed to the nearby sea front where we
strolled down the promenade admiring the kite surfers.

That evening our tour guide decided we had not seen enough of Melbourne
and had to take us to the south bank area. This was a beautiful
modern area in the heart of the city and was the perfect way to wrap up
Melbourne.

Our excellent tour guides and hosts were even more generous by taking
us to the airport the next morning. At this point we have to thank
penni-lee tours for their excellent service and bed and breakfast and
would recommend that everyone looks them up on the hostalbookers website.

Our return to Sydney was welcomed by glorious sunshine. We met up with
our friend Amanda in Bondi (an ex South African, who used to live in
London, but immigrated to Sydney a year ago). After dumping our gear in
her lovely two bed flat in bondi, right next to the beach, we went to get
a few supplies before Jan's cousin Claire came to visit with her cute
daughter Jessica. It was the first time Jan had seen Jess and a few
years since she had seen Claire. After the family reunion a walk on the
beach was necessary. So bondi to bronti was the order of the day and that
walk never fails to please.

The evening was spent with jans uncle ivor and family having dinner in
bondi and a lovely evening walk on the beach, not to forget cake at the
famous gelato bar.

The following day, we had managed to borrow a car and Amanda had gotten
the day off work. So the three of us headed for the Blue Mountains. We
spent an amazing day in this picturesque area about 2 hours from Sydney. We went for a couple of short walks and had a lovely picnic as well as exploring the local Art Deco shops

In the evening we had a farewell dinner at Amandas flat along with Debs and Rael. It capped a wonderful time in Australia.

Once again thanks to everyone who took care of us from Jans Uncle and family, to Sara and Amanda in Sydney along with Richard and Penni in Melbourne

Til South East Asia

park we continued to stroll around melbourne and eventually went to the
moving image museum where we saw a bizarre and clever exhibition. By
this time we had wilted in the 41 plus degree heat.

That night was NYE and we had been invited to friends of rich and penni
for a bbq, who had also gone to school with jan. Once again steve had
his meat craving satisfied, as there was copious meat and salads. As
our host worked for a brewery steve took advantage of trying a wide
variety of beers.

After dumping our gear in
her lovely two bed flat in bondi, right next to the beach, we went to get
a few supplies before jans cousin claire came to visit with her cute
daughter jessica.

Once again thanks to everyone who took care of us from Jans Uncle and family, to Sara and Amanda in Sydney along with Richard and Penni in Melbourne

satisfied. But at a cost, well everyone has to work for their dinner,
him and richard and a few others has to move a very old and heavy desk
down a flight of stairs and round the house into a garage. But he said
the meat was worth the move.

The following the pennilee tour group kicked off, by heading off into
the centre of town. We starting with a drive around looking for parking.
Once found pennilee really got into her own, by taking us on a guided
tour of the historic alleyways of melbourne, finishing off in the
spectacular federation square.

After a
beautiful drive into the forest, we headed for st stephens falls to have a
picnic lunch and short walk with some flies as an accompany. After a
brief stop at the famous sweet shop we headed off to the yarra valley -
wine country. We wanted coffee and cake, but unfortunately all the wine
farms were closing, so it was home time without the necessary caffeine
addiction being satisfied. A busy and long day had been had by all, so the
visitors decided to make dinner and a chilled night at home was enjoyed
by all.

As we had exhausted our hosts we gave them monday off and we headed into
town. Once there we took a tram to the excellent melbourne museum

park we continued to stroll around melbourne and eventually went to the

park we continued to stroll around melbourne and eventually went to the
moving image museum where we saw a bizarre and clever exhibition. By
this time we had wilted in the 41 plus degree heat.

That night was NYE and we had been invited to friends of rich and penni
for a bbq, who had also gone to school with jan. Once again steve had
his meat craving satisfied, as there was copious meat and salads. As
our host worked for a brewery steve took advantage of trying a wide
variety of beers.

After dumping our gear in
her lovely two bed flat in bondi, right next to the beach, we went to get
a few supplies before jans cousin claire came to visit with her cute
daughter jessica.

It capped a wonderful time in Australia.

After a
beautiful drive into the forest, we headed for st stephens falls to have a
picnic lunch and short walk with some flies as an accompany. After a
brief stop at the famous sweet shop we headed off to the yarra valley -
wine country. We wanted coffee and cake, but unfortunately all the wine
farms were closing, so it was home time without the necessary caffeine
addiction being satisfied. A busy and long day had been had by all, so the
visitors decided to make dinner and a chilled night at home was enjoyed
by all.

As we had exhausted our hosts we gave them monday off and we headed into
town. Once there we took a tram to the excellent melbourne museum

park we continued to stroll around melbourne and eventually went to the

this time we had wilted in the 41 plus degree heat.

After dumping our gear in
her lovely two bed flat in bondi, right next to the beach, we went to get
a few supplies before jans cousin claire came to visit with her cute
daughter jessica.

Once again thanks to everyone who took care of us from Jans Uncle and family, to Sara and Amanda in Sydney along with Richard and Penni in Melbourne

him and richard and a few others has to move a very old and heavy desk
down a flight of stairs and round the house into a garage. But he said
the meat was worth the move.

The following the pennilee tour group kicked off, by heading off into
the centre of town. We starting with a drive around looking for parking.
Once found pennilee really got into her own, by taking us on a guided
tour of the historic alleyways of melbourne, finishing off in the
spectacular federation square.

After a
beautiful drive into the forest, we headed for st stephens falls to have a
picnic lunch and short walk with some flies as an accompany. After a
brief stop at the famous sweet shop we headed off to the yarra valley -
wine country. We wanted coffee and cake, but unfortunately all the wine
farms were closing, so it was home time without the necessary caffeine
addiction being satisfied. A busy and long day had been had by all, so the
visitors decided to make dinner and a chilled night at home was enjoyed
by all.

As we had exhausted our hosts we gave them monday off and we headed into
town. Once there we took a tram to the excellent melbourne museum

and sunny sydney. We arrived in melbourne on friday 28 december, a day
later than planned, which meant that steve could not go and watch the
cricket as we were short of time. Which he was extremely disappointed
about. We were however met at the airport by a friendly face, that of our
friend richard leeman Jan knows richard from school days in cape town

park we continued to stroll around melbourne and eventually went to the
moving image museum where we saw a bizarre and clever exhibition. By
this time we had wilted in the 41 plus degree heat.

That night was NYE and we had been invited to friends of rich and penni
for a bbq, who had also gone to school with jan. Once again steve had
his meat craving satisfied, as there was copious meat and salads. As
our host worked for a brewery steve took advantage of trying a wide
variety of beers.

After dumping our gear in
her lovely two bed flat in bondi, right next to the beach, we went to get
a few supplies before jans cousin claire came to visit with her cute
daughter jessica.

Once again thanks to everyone who took care of us from Jans Uncle and family, to Sara and Amanda in Sydney along with Richard and Penni in Melbourne

After a
beautiful drive into the forest, we headed for st stephens falls to have a
picnic lunch and short walk with some flies as an accompany. After a
brief stop at the famous sweet shop we headed off to the yarra valley -
wine country.

After dumping our gear in
her lovely two bed flat in bondi, right next to the beach, we went to get
a few supplies before jans cousin claire came to visit with her cute
daughter jessica.

Once again thanks to everyone who took care of us from Jans Uncle and family, to Sara and Amanda in Sydney along with Richard and Penni in Melbourne

After a
beautiful drive into the forest, we headed for st stephens falls to have a
picnic lunch and short walk with some flies as an accompany. After a
brief stop at the famous sweet shop we headed off to the yarra valley -
wine country. We wanted coffee and cake, but unfortunately all the wine
farms were closing, so it was home time without the necessary caffeine
addiction being satisfied. A busy and long day had been had by all, so the
visitors decided to make dinner and a chilled night at home was enjoyed
by all.

As we had exhausted our hosts we gave them monday off and we headed into
town. Once there we took a tram to the excellent melbourne museum
where we spent a happy couple of hours. After a picnic in the adjacent
park we continued to stroll around melbourne and eventually went to the
