About 4 hours later we arrived at Mission Beach and found a nice looking campsite. The next task was to put the tent up without arguing! We decided that for this time we would follow the instructions, it was all going very smoothly until 4 german girls turned up with the same tent and got it all up and done in 10 minutes while we were still working ours out! About 2 minutes after we’d finished the heavens opened and we were glad we had opted for the larger tent with an extra bit you can sit in at the front- there was no way I was travelling around Oz in a tiny 2 man igloo tent! Once the rain had stopped we headed out to find some food and a bottle shop (you can’t buy alcohol in supermarkets here). The campsite kitchen was great and really well equipped with bbqs, cookers etc. The sites tend to have a “everyone quiet at 10 o’clock” rule so we zipped up the tent hoping that no mosquitos had got in and settled in for our first night under canvas. Apart from us hearing something very large walking around the tent in the middle of the night we slept surprisingly well on our blow up mattress.

The following day we didn’t do that much really, went for a walk along mission beach (unfortunately it wasn’t really sunbathing weather) and around the town, before having a dip in the camp sites pool in the afternoon. Then made a nice bowl of pasta and spent the evening talking to another English couple.

We woke up early ready to pack the tent away the next morning but unfortunately it had rained most of the night so we decided to have a leisurely breakfast in the hope that the sun would dry it out- which it did and made our lives a lot easier! It was then a 5 hour drive down to Airlie beach in the Whitsundays which we’d heard such great things about!

Nowt wrong with a two man igloo tent. Specially if it's nice an multi-coloured. Liking the wheels though.
