A quick xmas update from the comfort of our room in the Sofitel. We have been in Broadbeach for a couple of days now and have enjoyed the luxury lifestyle. The cocktails have gone down well in the evenings and we are stuffed full of good food.

The Sofitel is not very Christmassy. No tree, decorations or festive music. They even ran out of turkey at Christmas dinner! However we have had a great time and have eaten and drunk plenty, making the most of the all you can eat/drink Christmas buffet, Aussie Christmas fare consisting of Seafood (Lobster, Oysters, Prawns, Mussles, Squid, Crab and Moreton Bay Bugs), tradtional roast (beef, pork, ham, fish, chicken, no turkey) and numerous desserts (inluding a gingerbread house with no rats). There were however crackers on the tables (the Aussies call them Bon Bons). We even had some live entertainment in the form of a 'comedy' singing duo who got everyone involved. They even had James up front dressed as one of the Village People, singing YMCA. We walked off dinner on the beach (which was very busy), but didn't stop in Starbucks as there was a long queue!!

Broadbeach is a lot classier and quieter than Surfers. We spent the first day here checking out the shops and pavement cafes! We have visited the casino (yes another one) even manged to break even on the Pokies (slot machines). We were in the bar and saw a woman win $10,000 (about £4500) on the pokies - not bad!

We have spent Christmas day around the pool in the sun, which seems strange. Although the pool is not heated so was absolutely freezing!

We are now listening to xmas music via an internet radio station as we type! One bottle of Champagne to drink (thanks Ben & Cheryl) then I think we will be collapsing. We fly back to Cairns tomorrow morning to begin real life again. Hopefully we will be back in shape soon!

Hope you all got everything you wanted from Santa

Take care this Christmas xx

Merry Christmas
Aly, James, Lovely Christmas pics. Well, it's just stopped raining, pretty cold and dark already; I can't believe you don't miss being here. Best wishes from 'sunny' South Wales.
