Hello everyone! Thought it was about time I gave this blog writing another go, so bare with me whilst I get to grips with thinking and writing at the same time... Multi-tasking!!! After we said a sad goodbye to Ning and Ann (wish we could have stayed longer), we headed to The Gold Coast and were fortunate enough to have an offer to stay with my 1st cousin Jason, his fiance Deanna and their gorgeous little daughter Tenaya. Our coach pulled into Southport station and Jason was waiting to pick us up. It was really strange to meet him again after so long (over 30yrs), but we all got along great and both him and Deanna made us feel so welcome! It was made even better by their daughter Tenaya, who was just about the cutest ... read more

It has been some time since the last entry and we have been forgetting to take the camera, so the photos are scarce. After Yeppoon, we spent 2 days at Hervey Bay. We tried our luck again, fishing off the pier but no luck! The beaches were beautiful. Unfortunately the huge stinger warnings (including the fact that some are life threatening and the need to call emergency if stung) plus the bottles of vinegar at many coastal spots has made the water a little less inviting). We have seen some spectacular swimming spots. However, the reassurance at the caravan parks that all is generally okay at this time of year has not been enough for us to send the kids in. The only exception are beach areas specifically designed with stinger nets. There are many Queenslanders ... read more

We've had a couple of relaxing days around the house recently. While it was in the high 30s at home, we decided to enjoy a sunny 21˚C day at the Broadwater Rock Pools water park. Alex built up his confidence as the morning went on and eventually was going all over the place. It helped that there was hardly anyone else there... it is winter, after all. We've enjoyed playing at the beach... Tom building sandcastles and Alex destroying them. Alex has become much more brave with the waves and is enjoying chasing them... and then running away. Yesterday, he got caught in one and as he tried to walk inland, the wave battered him back and knocked him off his feet. Tom righted him quickly and there was a little whimpering (since he was fully ... read more

Alex has wanted to see the ocean since we arrived, so we packed ourselves lots of layers and headed off to the beach. The local beach is less than 5 minutes away (even when driving slowly on the left side of the road). When we got there, we realized we were very overdressed. There was no wind and a cloudless sky. We quickly shed our layers, rolled up Alex's pants, slathered on the sunscreen and headed out onto the soft sandy beach. Alex loved it. We found sand pails and shovels in the garage so were ready to have fun. Alex spent a good deal of time digging in the sand, but really surprised both of us when he decided to venture toward the water. Slowly but surely he and Tom got closer and closer and ... read more

We're off on our adventure of 2011 - a house exchange to Broadbeach Waters on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Our trip began on July 4th with us sending Alex off to daycare and madly doing laundry, packing, and tidying up the house. This was a little different from a typical vacation where you can just leave your house and not worry about anything. This time, John and Patsy Gallant will be stayIng at out home while we use theirs. So, our house had to at least be presentable for company! We managed to get everything done, just in time to pick up Alex from daycare (waking him from his nap) and head to the airport. The trip along highway 401 was fairly tedious with accidents and construction... But we made up for the time spent ... read more

We had a little sleep in this morning and decided that today would be another beach day. We walked down to our beach. Dad and I hopped in the water right away. The waves this time were a bit different. It was deep near the shore and then went really shallow for a ways (sand bar) and thats where the big waves were hitting. These waves scared me a bit more then the others. I liked being in the deeper water where you could just float with the waves. Mom came out with us for a bit. We walked back to the hotel and I hopped straight into the pool. It's such a nice pool! We got all cleaned up and had a snack and relaxed for the afternoon before walking over to the mall across ... read more

We woke up to a beautiful day and no desire to do anything too touristy so we threw on our bathing suits (Aussies call them cozzies or swimming costume). It's not a very far walk to the beach from our beautiful place so we got there in no time. We set up camp, threw our towels down and dad and I headed for the water. It was beautifully warm and yet refreshing from the heat. The waves were pretty big and quite powerful. They have flags set up on the beach to let you know where to swim with a lifeguard on duty. Apparently there are shark nets in the water but I didn't see any nets. There is also helicopters that are on "shark patrol" and fly up and down the beach looking for any ... read more

We were up early to some sunshine and checked out of our apartment. We gave our rental car a quick wash and a vacuum. We headed out of Noosa and made a pit stop in Eumundi for their famous markets. It was a huge market and dad gave mom and I a deadline of one hour. So not cool! But mom and I headed off in search of some cool things. Mom ended up buying the most. She found a dress (that I really liked!) a hat made by a local lady, and a wood cutting board. I managed to find a great sunhat in hopes that our rainy days were over. Dad bought us ladies some really yummy popcorn. It's too bad we couldn't stay at the markets longer but we had to get through ... read more

Hello Last night in Surfers Paradise. And the better ! Why? Well I think I got a mental overdose... Yesterday I started the day with breakfast on the beach : a nice vanilla latte and 2 croissants with full frontal view on the ocean. Next up was a walk ON the beach from Surfers Paradise all the way up to Burleigh Heads. Passing the beaches of Broad Beach, Mermaid Beach, Nobby Beach and Miami (!) Beach. A very nice walk. Especially as well because I had my Ipod with me. So with my favorite songs playing on the Ipod, my feet walking in the water and the amazing views of some stunning buildings along the coast line I reached some moments of great joy. It was a real thril...Hard to explain in words. I felt mentally ... read more

So we set off with some trepidation to the marathon expo to pick our timing chip and race number after we had been rumbled for our attempts at saving a couple of dollars last week. As it turned out it passed without incident as the lady on question was at a media conference, she sent us a nice email saying we were forgiven as she loved our story and was looking forward to meeting us. wooo hooo we have a new friend in Queensland. Then we set off to explore the expo, Philips brother Andrew who knows about this stuff had recommended the Phiten stuff. it sounded like witch craft to me they claim it relieves fatigue by balancing the body's positive and negative ions and thus regulating the body's "bio-electric currents." what happened next is ... read more
