Go Apes!!!
On the ropes course. Go Apes is the name of the ropes course. December 5, 2007
It has been a while since I have updated the blog. I guess that is a good thing since it means I have been busy.
We finally have a Kitchen sink. It was interesting preparing food for Thanksgiving without a kitchen sink. Thanksgiving was at Aly and Andy's house this year. We have a hard time having dinner for four here so Aly was nice enough to have Thanksgiving. We had a really nice time there and spent the evening with friends that have returned from their tours in the US. We did have a turkey that turned out well, although I was afraid of it when we picked it up. Aly and I decided that since Thanksgiving is not celebrated here that it might be better to order a Turkey from the butcher so we will have one big enough for 10 people. Sounds great right? Well, that morning we went to pick it up and Mark came back to the car with it and said it looked like they had seasoned the turkey. I thought, great all we have to do is oil it up and stick it in the oven. I peeked into the

Oh my god, it literally had been plucked and you could still see the parts that were too small to pluck. So now we have a turkey with stubble. I have never loved Frank Perdue or butterball and their frozen turkeys more in my life. I am definately a city girl. We get to Aly's and I make the stuffing to stuff the turkey. We were looking in the holes to see if there was a bag of the giblets, barf, you could tell where the neck was cut. (I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth thinking of it). I toughened up a bit and went to stuff it but it didn't look right at all. Aly and I were standing there trying to figure out what end to stuff since it just didn't look right. Aly called her mom and while she was on the phone I realized the Turkey was upside down. Once flipped over, it looked right and I was able to stuff it. I am going to put that down as a blonde
The Hostess
Thanks for having Thanksgiving!!!!! moment. The turkey was really nice once it was cooked, but I think I will stick with frozen turkeys in the future.
A couple weeks ago Mark and I bought the floor tile's for the kitchen (that still aren't laid). They will look really nice when they are down. They are really large tiles that only come three to a pack since they are so heavy. Each pack weighs about 30-40 pounds. Mark and I were carrying them into the house when I took a pack out and the packaging came off and the case landed on my left foot. Ouch it hurt. Mark made me go to the A&E and have it X-rayed since I could not feel my toes or bend them at all. Thankfully I didn't break anything, I must have strong bones. I now have a toe that makes popping noises and doesn't quite bend the way it should. But it doesn't hurt anymore.
I have been spending some time at the gym lately. I started a Pilates class and love it. I think I am becoming a bit addicted to it. I have also started going to the Hula Aerobics class and Salsa
dancing class. They are so much fun. I am actually quite horrible in the hula hoop class. I already have injured myself with a hula hoop (the hula hoops are weighted so they are heavier than a normal one). Last night in class we were hula hooping around our hands to work our arms(boy does it work) I had just gotten it going at an amazing speed when mine flew off and hit the floor. I immediately went to get it and as it hit the floor it bounced back and I jammed my finger on it. I have a black and blue finger tip and a nail that is broken half way down the nail bed. I felt really stupid and felt like it was an "only emily.." moment. But the instructor said somebody had actually broken their arm in the class the year before. So believe it or not, Hula Aerobics can be a dangerous class. The salsa class, well I feel like an elephant trying to be graceful. I am hopeless. Mom, you will never see me on "Dancing with the stars" (Also, because I am not a star).
Now for an activity that I actually
didn't hurt myself doing:
This past Sunday we went to help out Mark's ATC squadron. (It is a bunch of Air force Cadets that are teens. Mark used to be in the cadets when he was growing up and now he is an officer and works with the cadets on Tuesday and Thursday nights). The cadets were on a camping weekend and on Sunday they were doing a ropes course. They needed more adults so Mark and I went down and helped out. We thought we would just be watching. Nope, we also had to do the ropes course. It was so much fun. Basically it is an adult jungle gym high up in the trees. I got a bit nervous with the tarzan rope, but had a blast with the zip lines and some of the other obstacles we had to go through. It took two hours and it was pouring down rain and windy for most of it, but I would do it again, although I had bungy jumping flash backs during the tarzan ropes and wanted to throw up. I don't know why.
Mark was away for a week in Farmbourgh for a training class. It
Hightech security alarm
don't worry, we will be getting rid of that lovely pink carpet shortly. was my first time at home alone over night at this house. It is amazing how many creaks the house makes at 1:00am. Scary. Also, if it is windy our mail slot blows open and slams shut so it sounds like somebody is trying to break in. But I took care of that and set up a Redneck alarm. Mark and I bought Coors Light before he left and I set up the emptys that were supposed to go in the recycle bin. They sat in front of the front door so I would hear if anybody tried to come in the front door. I have no idea why that made me feel better especially since we have a back door and windows downstairs. I'm such a nerd. Randy, I included the picture for you.
I also have started having coffee with a woman, Lynn, who has a husband that works with Mark. He is over on a tour from the US. It is nice to be able to chat with somebody from the states that has gone through what I am going through. They also run every Wednesday night with a group called Almost Athletes. The group meets at a pub, goes for a 5 mile run, and then has a drink afterwards. I don't think I can drink alcohol after running 5 miles, I'll stick with a diet coke or water. I don't even know if I can still run five miles. We are going to try it out tonight. I hope we can do it every Wednesday. I think it will be a good way to learn the roads and meet people. Also, get back in shape.
Well, seeing as I have spent the morning having coffee and I am coming down from my coffee high (imported dunkin donuts coffee), I am going to do some more laundry before I fall asleep in the computer chair.

Funny!
Em: I am so happy I raised such an intelligent daughter - love the security alarm - now I know how important it is to say Dad's and Peter's empty beer bottles - I am now going to cancel our alarm system (haha). I think you are truly my daughter - my first TG I cooked the bag in the turkey - the second we had to ask our landlord which end to stuff - so don't feel so bad. We love you and Mark - keep the blogs coming - love them!!!!
