the Northern beaches

Mike and Marie were our guides today. They took us up to Palm beach first - in rain- then came south beach by beach till we got to Manly which has 2 beaches, one in the harbour and the other on the ocean. They have an apartment overlooking the harbour, near the ferry terminal. After lunch, Mike showed us where he had lived as a boy, and lots of boyhood haunts. We took a stroll too, to yet another little beach, where the water was so clear that I could watch the fish round my legs while I paddled.

This is where the millionaires live these days. And where Home and away was filmed. a bit wet, but never mind.

Canoe club
kayaks in Manly harbour. One of those boats had room for 3! Mike said that they sometimes need a motor boat to get them back in again if the winds against them, and they come home all tied together in a line!

the walkway
to shell beach. Along the way were lots of sculptures of sea things - fish, water dragons snorklers, divers and a bandicoot. does that live in the sea? Anyway, it made the walk interesting!

swimming pool
they catch the sea water at high tide in this pool so it makes a natural swimming pool. Actually, there is a pool like this on most beaches, but this one isn't concreted and I like the sculpture on the wall.
