On the wayto the bus station
The alarm went off at twelve and we both woke up rather reluctantly. We packed our things and tried our best to separate the clothes which stank of smoke from last night. After leaving our room we walked over to the main hostel and chatted to people whilst stealing all their music to put on our pda. We struggled to find an available hostel for Sofia. So many people have told us to stay at Hostel Mostel but they are closed for the upcoming future so we got the address of a place called Be My Guest Hostel which has an affordable double.

We went for dinner to Diana's which was the restaurant that was recommended by everyone. The menu was huge and full of dishes that you choose a couple of. We ordered a salad, potato, fried aubergine, some vegetarian dish and a big curly sausage for Rob. We had WAY too much to eat and even the salad had a heavy cream on it. When I went to the toilet I noticed that most people had left a lot on their plates as well, that seems to be the way to do it. We asked if our leftovers could be put in a doggy bag for us which they did.

We walked to the bus stop keeping an eye out for a homeless person (there are usually loads) to give the food to but we couldn't see any, so we left it at the side of the bin. Getting the ticket to Sofia was easy and the bus left pretty quickly. I read and Rob dozed.

We got a taxi to the hostel using a company that we'd been told were legitimate. They charged us less than two pounds for a decent length journey. Not bad. The hostel was quite intimidating because we had to walk into a tiny room which was full of people. We weren't really given much information etc and we felt very much in the way. However, the room was fantastic and huge.

Our walk around Sofia was fun but it was icily cold. We walked without a map for a while, just walking in whichever direction we fancied. After a while we got too cold and tried to figure out where we were on the map. We wanted to head to a supermarket that was conveniently on the way back to the hostel. (or so we thought) We found road names and saw which direction to go and set off. A long time down the road things felt wrong so we consulted the map again and found that we had been walking in the wrong direction. There were two roads with the same name leading off the same main road. On the corner of the road leading to our hostel there was a shop where we bought noodles and some bread.

At the hostel we cooked the noodles in the world's smallest kitchen, and When we had finished them we booked our flights back to England. We will fly from Budapest to Liverpool on the 17th December with Easyjet.

Our room has the luxury of satellite TV with a few English channels. We watched the latest headlines by the BBC and CNN. I am writing this whilst Rob is watching something on the discovery channel. Even though it is freezing outside we are quite warm in here. Night night. Stob.

freebies to the needy
Your story about trying to find a needy person to give your uneaten food to reminds me of Dad and I in London last week. We passed on our underground tickets to 2 random people queing up to buy theirs as we were about to leave and no longer had need of them. Great minds and all that.. Love mum xxxxxxxx
