23 October - Koh Phangan and Koh Samui
BAN TAI We spent 2 nights at Ban Tai further down the Island from Haad Salad and towards the party town of Haad Rin. Koh Phangan is known as the “Party Island” and is visited every month at full moon by 4,000 - 10,000 young people from around the world. They say that the moon is the largest from this Island at Haad Rin, so they throw a huge party along the beach, they have like 5 music stations setup and sell alcohol and the young party all night long. Since then they have another 3 moon parties during the month. The half moon party is held in the jungle and apparently they have DJ’s up in the rocks etc, that was last night just out of Ban Tai where we were staying, but we did not go, it did not start until 11.30 pm and we would have been bored after 10 minutes!! Too old!! But that is largely what this island is all about the “Moon parties”.
Accommodation - We stayed at Dew Shore Bungalows for 2 nights, not much of a beach, bungalow OK for NZ$25, plywood
Harmony Bay
Dogs Everywhere box with non flushing toilet, and no toilet paper allowed!! Restaurant not much chop but the pool was fantastic. They are more expensive bungalows that would be much nicer, but would not recommend visiting Ban Tai.
Weather - we have had a storm consisting of heaps of rain, thunder and lightning, we know what clap of thunder means now, sometimes it roars from one end of the island to the other. Just as the storm finished the Monsoon started!
BAN KHAI We ventured a few more kms down the road to Ban Khai.
Accommodation - We are staying in a place called Harmony Bay run by a Brit.
Took us to a room that needed to be “made up” “swept up” - bit dubious
..Netting across the open parts of the bedroom roof - to keep the
bats out he says!
..Big piece of tree used as seat with saw dust all around on the deck….something large is eating that he says!
..Sight large long black centipede…that ones ok but if you see the larger one, you will know it when you see it, it is real mean, then you are in trouble …..keep
Harmony Bay
Harmony Bay Communual Lounge and Restaurant closed toe shoes on at all times he says!
..Water leaking down the walls of the bedroom……geeko pooh down the walls ….We will wipe that up he says!
Ok of course we will take it for only NZ$30.00!
22 October 2007 Well the place scrubbed up quite well with big deck with a bathroom off it and a bedroom. - I think we have scored the penthouse! This place is great for backpackers, the lounge area where you go and eat has mats and couches and everyone lazes around watching tv, drinking, eating and playing games etc. Would be perfect in good weather supposed to have great sunsets, but it has rained and rained and rained for days now. I am sick of being wet and nothing dries either.
It does not seem to matter where you go there are resident dogs and cats who like to attach themselves to you and think they own the best chair in the house! They just invite themselves to your bungalow deck and have no idea what “shoo” means.
Well we survived the 2 nights with only a frog in the bathroom and geeko pooh on the
Harmony Bay
Our Penthouse! bottom of the bed.
KOH SAMUI - Boh Phut Its still raining, we have no dry clothes left! We caught the ferry to Koh Samui, pretty rough ride and could not see any life jackets, but we made it.
Accommodation - we are staying at Cocooning Hotel, it’s a little French hotel with 6 themed rooms in a little fishing village called Boh Phut, the other side of Chaweng.
Cocooning Hotel Its fantastic to get out of the rain….its heavenly…………there is no rain leaking inside the room…….there is a flushing toilet that takes paper ……….bliss! White cotton sheets….fridge…..mini bar……… TV…….. hottish shower…….we are so excited…..and all for NZ$40.00. We are finally dry!! But its still raining……….they say will keep raining for another 2 days…….well it is monsoon.
24 October 2007 We are still at Cocooning in Boh Phut and it has not stopped raining. Thank god for the TV. The roads are flooded so you have to wade in your jandals through ankle high water to get out anywhere to eat…...well it’s a break from the TV. The rain is just so wet….you get absolutely saturated, we have had to buy long plastic
Harmony Bay
Penthouse Bedroom rain coats. It just keeps raining and raining and raining.
Carl has earache (but you can buy antibiotics over the counter) and I feel one coming on so yesterday we sat on our hard as concrete bed watching movies all day!! There is just nothing to do in the rain. They forecast that today was the day for clearing up…so heres hoping!
Oh my god …we have just looked out the window…its sunshine! See you later..
