Queen Victoria
Statue of Queen Victoria in front of Kensington Palace I arrived in London after leaving behind the dramas of Frankfurt. It was pouring with rain but I didn't let that stop me from wandering around after I had checked in to the hotel, which was in a really convenient spot, one street behind Hyde Park.
I put on the raincoat and got the umbrella organised and decided to walk through Hyde Park first. What a huge park, puts our Sydney Hyde Park to shame. It was so good to see squirrels running around everwhere. I stood for a while and just watched them.I came across the Princess Diana Memorial Children's playground and the memorial water fountain. These are at opposite ends of the park so by the time I got from one to the other my shoes were soaked ! I thought I would go and look around Kensington Palace. This was a great decision as I soon dried off and also saw some amazing pieces of history. There was also a display of Princess Diana dresses and I remembered times that I had seen her on the TV wearing certain outfits.
I then thought that to be able to see the most that I could in such
Memorial
Princess Diana Memorial Walk a short time that I would catch the Hop on - Hop off Bus. I was lucky enough to meet an Australian grandmother, Maureen and her teenage granddaughter, Rhiannon, and spent the rest of the day touring with them. This turned out to be a great thing to do as I didn't think that I'd be able to go on the London Eye because I don't like rollercoasters, merry go rounds etc but they convinced me to go with them. I'm so glad I did, the view was amazing!!
We then caught the ferry to go along the Thames River, which was included in the price of the bus tour. You get a different perspective of London from the water !
Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, London Tower are all that they are made out to be, and I'm happy that I at least got a glimpse of them. I would like to go back to London and spend more time there, perhaps even finish the family history that Pam started. Maybe all of us girls could go ???
Looking at some of the buildings around the city, I could why building in Sydney and some suburbs are
"Ian"
The Tour Commentator built as they are. The English were trying to "recreate" their city so that they could feel more like they were at home, being so far away !
As you will see from the photos with raindrops included, it was a very wet day, but regardless of that I had a great day in London, and was even more pleased with myself that I didn't let the dramas of the past couple days stop me !!
