Baby Frances on her first day home.
Hello everyone!

What a year this has been! A year ago we discovered that we were expecting a second baby, and boy did things get busy quickly. As soon as Dad found out we were expecting, he started gently hinting that Saskatchewan was the place to be, and after a few months we decided he was right. We knew right from the beginning that things would need to change; our house in Edmonton needed a whole lot of work, and it was just too small for a family of 4. So after a lot of talking we decided to look into selling our house and making the move to Regina. It turned out that we had chosen the perfect time to sell in Edmonton, and we ended up selling our little home to a friend for almost double what we had paid for it only 4 years ago.

We packed up at the begining of May (after some time spent in the hospital on my part) and moved the family to Regina. It was a stressful time for sure, as I was still feeling under the weather, Mary was stressed, and one of the cats got left behind. Luckily,

Mary was so happy to welcome Frances into our family.
I quickly got better, Mary has recovered, and a good friend of ours drove out with the rebel cat so he could join the herd. We moved in to a crummy little basement suite in Regina as we continued to look for a perfect house. Less than a month after we moved in, Frances Anne Louise Dixon joined our family, and a week after she was born we finally found our house.

We took posession of the new house at the begining of August, and we took the month of August to make it our home. We painted most of the upstairs, scrubbed the whole place, and took our time moving in. At the end of the month we moved for real, and for the last time in what we hope will be a very long time.

Milestone, where we now live, is a lovely little town of about 500 people. It has a grocery store, hardware store, bar, post office, butcher, a couple of gas stations and a restaurant. We are only 2 blocks away from both the elementary and high schools, and about 4 blocks away from the church where the preschool is run. We have a swimming pool, a curling rink and a skating rink, and there seems to be a lot going on in the town. The Milestone Prairie Players is a drama company in town that puts on a very popular dinner theatre once a year. The people are friendly, and the town is full of kids. It's been a bit of an adjustment going from Edmonton to here, and I miss all our friends. I'm slowly getting to know the neighbours, and every day our house feels more like home.

Frances and Mary are both doing well. Mary is busy busy busy, and Frances is a giant. At four months of age Frances now weighs in at a delicate 18 pounds. She's wearing clothing that Mary wore at around 9 months of age. Mary loves the house and all the space we have, she likes to play in the yard, and she loves to go walking around town when the weather is nice.

It's really nice to be close to Dad and Michael, and we are happy that the girls will be close to at least one set of Grandparents. The hardest thing for us is being part of a

family that is so spread out. The majority of Ian's family is in Nova Scotia, and mine of course is mainly in B.C. My Mum was able to come out to visit us in August, and Ian's Mum was here in September, but there are so many other people we want to introduce the girls too, and to show off our new home.

Congratulations!
Jennifer, Thanks for the blog entry. Great to see your family and to hear all about your new home. Mary sure is growing up, but then that is just what big sisters do. Give both Mary and Frances a hug from me! Gerry
