Ready for the elephant ride
I called my dad to wish him a happy birthday yesterday and realised that it was exactly three years to the day that I left New Zealand for Canada. I'm quite shocked, it snuck up on me. To celebrate my third year anniversary I went a played Platonk with a group of Thia's that I had meet the night before. They play every night in the grounds of a temple in Sukhathai. It was really entertaining as they joked and teased each other the whole time. When I did a good shot I was given hand shakes and thumbs up. It was fun, I almost stayed in Sukathai to play a third night, but had to get back to Bangkok.

Before Sukhathai I was up in Chang Mai. It's a friendly city with plenty of sticky rice and spicy sausages. I went on a three day jungle trek which was such a contrast to Egypt that I really enjoyed all the rain. Everything got wet but that just added to the trip. Wet rice fields, wet shoes, wet jungle, flooded rivers, slippery paths. It was an adventure. And on the last day we went on Bamboo rafts down part of the river then on an Elephant ride.

Heading south in search of some sun and beaches next.

love

It didn't take long for the village kids to find us when we stoped for the night. I wanted to see them in the village but they wanted to sell us trinkets

Our elephant driver was very relaxed about sitting on the head of this enormous animal. Not sure I could smoke and drive
