Hi Everyone!
It's taken me a while to get onto the internet so apologies for delayed updates. I'm actually in Edinburgh, Scotland now but I haven't had a good look around or taken any pics so this blog is about the Hollywood experience...
After a trying 15hour flight we arrived in LA and picked up our hire car - some sort of convertible - and proceeded to try our hand at driving on the wrong side of the road. I didn't actually give it a go, Becky and I left that up to Jase. I must say he did an awesome job, although we did almost have head on collisions a couple of times. We drove straight to our hotel, The Ramada on Santa Monica Boulevard. It was very dissappointing given the pics on the internet. Upon arrival we had no idea how to enter and decided to park the car and try to find reception. We had taken some American cash out but only had notes and needed change for the parking so I headed to the nearest Star Bucks to grab a coffee and some change. I ordered a vanilla iced coffee - which was nothing like I expected,

and we found to be typical of America - and tried to pay with my $100 bill. I was told they did not accept $100 bills and upon explaining my situation they gave me the coffee as a welcome to America. Meanwhile, I'm still trying to work out how to get change for the meter and a man comes up to Jase who had joined me by that stage and said, "Don't you know you're supposed to leave your girlfriend at the door when you come in?" We kind of laughed and looked puzzled and he said "You're in West Hollywood now, you know..." Feeling very confused about the situation, I grabbed my coffee and he came over and said "You didn't understand what I meant did you? 99.9% of the population here are gay men". Upon looking around we realised the Star Bucks was full of tanned, muscled men sipping low fat, no sugar, soy milk lattes who were virtually undressing Jase with their eyes. Welcome to West Hollywood!
That night we went out to a bar where we had too many drinks and ended up on the dance floor with some black girls trying to teach us white

girls how to dance. Next day I felt terrible and spent the day in bed and missed the most exciting thing that happened. Jase and Becky headed down to check out Melrose Place and came across a throng of papparazzi waiting outside a building, apparently for Nicole Ritchie. They were talking to another Australian when she walked out and they got it all on video. Funny thing that Hollywood did to us, everywhere we went after that we were celebrity hunting. We visited LA Ink, the tattoo shop of Kat from pay tv show Miami Ink and got a few pics and a tshirt. Disappointingly she wasnt there but the next day we went back cos Jase's tshirt was too small and she was at the back of the shop. We didn't get to speak to her, but got a couple of pics which was good enough for us!
Apart from this we ate a lot of sushi as food was generally crap, oversizeda and contained liquidised cheese. We also visited Disneyland and California something - cant remember the name - which were amazing. The actual construction and operation must have been enormous.
I have to say before I go

Teacups for Aidy
that everyone we encountered were lovely and only too willing to help - more than likely because of the tips we felt obliged to pay them - and the stereotypes we had were far from the truth. Lovely people.
I'll try and upload some pics for you, but no guarantees I can work out the technology at an internet cafe. I miss home a lot, but am learning a lot and travelling really is a great experience. More on Scotland soon,

Love Sarah
