Hi Again... Just got back from a 4 day road trip around Scotland. The sights were absolutely amazing! Beautiful countryside... I left my map details at home so I may not know names of some of the places we visited but I'll do my best... We departed from Edinburgh on Monday and first stopped in Stirling, a beautiful little town with castle and the Wallace monument, which you may or may not have heard of (I hadn't!)... The monument is erected in the name of Sir William Wallace, who took his campaign for freedom into battle and on to victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. We actually got to see the bridge where the battle took place, and climbed the monument to find some breathtaking views. The first night was spent in a lovely little cottage which we didn't find until dark and were the next day met with a beautiful loch - of which there were plenty - and lovely quiet country air. We didn't realise it at the time but we'd stumbled across a little gold mine for £20ea per night. The next day we went on to Skye, an small island. We caught the

ferry across with the car and explored a little. We stopped into a Distillery for the boys and sampled some whiskey... Strong! I'm actually having difficulty remembering our exact movements as we spent a lot of time driving and stopping at places of interest... We spent the second night in a town called Portree where I had my first backpacking experience. Here we realised the gold mine we had the night before when we all paid £14 for a bed. We shared the room with 2 other people and weren't keen to hang around so we ventured to a local pub. Several bottles of wine later and we were mixing in with the locals quite well. Jase plays the bag pipes and brought his small pipes over so we treated the pub to Waltzing Matilda while Jase played the small pipes. Some of them even knew the words and joined in! Us girls - Kim, Becky and I - learnt to play darts with the help of some local lads... Not an easy game to keep score of after a couple of bottles of red! The third day we continued on and ended up at Rogie Falls where we were

Ballarat, Victoria gets a mention here! We apparently have a statue erected in his memory... Not sure where it is... Any ideas?
determined to catch some salmon. We had a hot tip that Rogie Falls would have jumping salmon that we would just pluck from the water. Turns out this wasn't the case and we were sorely disappointed. Not a fish in sight. Another day down... We continued on to Inverness where we ended up staying in another hostel as basically all accomodation was full. I got in an early night and the next day was the final day on the road. We drove past the famous Loch Ness and had a little look around and got some quick pics. We had been keeping a keen eye out for the beautiful and elusive highland cattle. They are on post cards everywhere here and we were sure to have stumbled across them. But the final day had arrived and still no cattle. Then finally there they were in a paddock on the side of the road. Mission complete!
It takes me a long long time to upload my pics and I can't be bothered sitting here in this internet cafe any longer so I hope you've enjoyed the sights... I'll get the map from home and try to edit this entry to

give you a more detailed version but thats the basics. I'll also try to get some pics in Edinburgh and do a blog on life here... Going to London next week (if I can work out the bus or train system) to visit a friend from uni living in London now and my cousin Paul. After that its back to some sort of reality and thinking about getting a job. Miss you all... Take care til next time,

Love Sarah.

Scenery such as this was common. The mountainous country side and the rain made beautiful waterfalls at every turn. Here the boys are filling waterbottles... Great water!
