My ocelot kitten mistress
her name is Sasha and I love her dearly. La Paz is neat.i like it here.its realllly high up and has loadsa hills so im always out of breath, theres hardly any oxygen in the air.The streets are all old and cobbled and covered in people selling food and various crap, anything and everything is sold on the streets of La Paz. if you were that way inclined you could buy 2 pasties, a razor, some chiclets,a sewing kit, some water and a monkey skull for a pound. i actually just calculated that and its not an exageration. i know maths.
so yeah.
everyones pretty laid back here, no ones in much of a rush except the hippies who cant wait to buy more ridiculous clothes which everyone laughs at.global phenomenon, "indigenous tribespeople" clothes which the indigeonous people never ever wear and only sell to hippies for alot of cash and then laugh at them.
but anyway, la paz is massive, a huge sprawl of people crammed into every corner and up every hill, some brazilian dude we met said it was just like Sao Paulo. but that means little to me as ive not yet been.
went to the coca museum, very interesting, people chew coca leaf here and
Room with a view
Outside our dorm room the myth goes that god gave it to the andean people and it makes them super rad and strong but the white man came and took it and it poisoned him for his evil. makes sense, coca leaf is actually good for you in many ways but cocaine really isnt a health food. the world press photo awards exhibitions here too and theres some totally amazing pictures, like one if this leopard seal ripping a penguins head
right off.loads of lebanon and israel too.
so ok, we decided to do some downhill mountainbiking because we both do it all the time and everything and La Paz has the accolade of containing The Worlds Most Dangerous Road!!!!! (scary music etc) up until last november between 200-300 people died every year on that road so they built a bit of tarmac road and now only 55 people have died on it so thats ok.most of the deaths were motorists as well so thats even better. only like 11 cyclists have died on it in the past 3 years so i felt reasonably safe hurtling down it as fast as i could. its down a mountain (4.5 kms above sea level, kinda
La Paz
it looks like this in any direction.hyowj. hard to breath) and gravelly n muddy and there are no barriers to stop people going over the sheer cliffs which the road is on so its perfect for me. we chose the most reputable group to go with and they were awesome (Gravity Assisted), they gave us loadsa safety speaches and gear and were with us the whole way but everyone stretches out so you ride on your own really then meet them at a checkpoint. the views we saw riding down were epic. you are right on the cliffs and you have to actually ride on the side of the cliff edge not the side of the mountain wall which made it even more fun. you go very fast and slide about sometimes and you have plenty of opportunities to ride over the edge should you chose to. we made it and i loved it.sooo much.it was 64 km of downhill with a few ks uphill which sucked so bad and all the way up i begged myself to just get off and walk as it would be faster and easier but i didnt cuz i am man etc. on the way you see loadsa off crosses and
Cathedral, La Paz
theres 93845734985742389 pigeons mincing around here.they love it. shrines and wreckage from accidents. we saw 2 busses which had crashed into each other and gone over the cliff just before we got there plus a massive landslide which covered most of the road in a huge pile of rock. driving back up it was more scary than riding down as its way slower and you get to see exactly what you were just doing.
at the bottom theres an animal sanctuary and free food and beer.
There i found the love of my life, an ocelot kitten named Sasha from the Amazon who i spent some serious alone time with.she was tied up at the moment cuz the monkeys were loose but she had plenty of rope and could run and hunt without being too restricted.took her about 10 mins to get used to me and play in my lap and after another 10 mins she was taking huge run ups and using my head and shoulders as launch pads to attack really high tree braches. she could jump ridiculously high. her fur was the softest i had ever felt and her eyes were literally mesmerising. after another 10 mins she felt comfortable enough to hunt my toes
Town hall or something
the cops in La Paz are so cool, theyre all like action man and have loadsa massive guns and rad motorcycles but they never do anything ever and fingers and face and head.she bit the hell out of me but i loved it really and she was only playing. she then attacked and mauled some stupid spider monkey who tried to touch me which was HILARIOUS but i have NEVER seen an animal look so upset.feelings of intense emotional turmoil and betrayal conveyed through the eyes.
at me.
stupid monkey.
after like 30 mins some chick came along and totally spoiled our moment but she took some pix for me so i didnt set Sasha on her.
Sashas rents had been killed for their fur and she was a lonely orphan kitten trying to learn her survival skills. i felt so priviledged to have met her and for her to play with me as she was a wild animal and a dedicated killer. i watched her take out some bird which was mental but she batted it into a ditch and couldnt get at it to eat it.
great fun.
lake titicaca next,pumped.
