Sooooooo what to say. Ive not been to many new towns or cities or monuments recently but I have been getting around some and learning a great deal about Kampuchea and teaching and all sorts of things. A very informative few months. Much goes on in a small farming village where nothing happens. All sorts of country gossip, its a bit like emerdale. Not that I watch such things.. The place I work in acts as a sort of community centre as well as a free school, before and after lessons theres always some hanging about going on, football is a great way to impress the ladies as well as engage in what can only be described as proto-flirting.Really proto. Its a place where young people can hang out and spend time with each other in a ... read more

Well now, new place. new post. 2 pages of photos this time, ive been snap happy. Remember to scroll all the way down as theres more photos at the very bottom of the page as well as a 2nd page of goodies. The travelling has subsided somewhat and we are now in Tropaengsdock doing our thing. Its rad. I feel very lucky to be there and alot of things seem to have just fallen into place perfectly. First of all, getting to the village was a slight mission as nobody we've met here had ever heard of it, including all the various taxi/moto/tuktuk drivers in Takeo town, the provincial capital about an hour from the village. It took some time and phone calls and internet maps to explain where we wanted to go. Ended up arriving ... read more

Soooooo. Been around a bit since my last blog. Had a little explore of the eastern chunk of Kampuchea, none of which I had ever seen but which was in fact lovely. Despite being the area of most Khmer Rouge and landmines (the infamous k5 belt, the largest minefield in the world, is along the border with Vietnam) it was safe as houses and all sleepy. Our first stop was in Kratie (pronounced Kracheh but spelled wrong for no reason) which is a dreamy little town along a river with no real western nightlife to speak of and actual old people! Genuine ones! We met some gnarly old dude who ran this restaurant who userd to be a history teacher before the Khmer Rouge turned up. I cant explain what a rarity this dude was. All ... read more

Well I have guite alot to catch up on. We have been all over the shop and back again. I shall go in chronological order but Im sure some straying shall be done here and there. So Sihanoukville. It took no time at all to get there as we decided to carry on in the style of opulence and splash out the 5$s on a private taxi. Still, it was long enough for the batteries on my new iPod to run out, which I had to buy as my mp3 got robbed (as did my mobile phone, winner). Id like to take a moment to comment on how god awful ipods are and what a ridiculous waste of money they are. incredibly low battery life, almost impossible to put music on and take it off ... read more

Not a huge amount of Big Things To Write Home About have happened yet but it has been an eventful week or so. Phnom Penh was big. Met so many cool people, locals and a number of ex-pats, alot of whom are complete idiots who are literally intolerable but some are gems. Job offers keep flowing in, looks like I will be able to teach History here as well as English, and maybe another course if I'm lucky. Bar jobs are easy to come by too. Very good stuff. Now were in Kampot which is in the south, its pretty pretty here. Much more rural and relaxed. Spending a day on a rented moto, cruising around the surrounding countryside is a treat I dont imagine I shall tire of any time soon. The serenety coupled with ... read more

Lets get stuck in. KL was not awesome. Everything went smoothly, all the flights and borders were ok to be fair but its a very dirty and ugly city. There is a huge mix of people from all over the region here, theres a chinatown, indiatown plus untold people from Japan and Korea and Thailand and so on. This would lead one to believe that the cultures and arts of these peoples would be brought with them but that influence is not clearly visible. What is visible is dollars and dirt. Thats what i saw. Most of this city is reserved for business and it really shows, Chinatown was neat though, i had a cool market and loadsa really weird but cheap food. I have no idea what alot of what I ate was but i ... read more

Mexico City is really big.like super double well big. theres 25 MILLION people in the city.its in 3 states.and its awesome. theres soo much to do in and around mexicity (that ones mine, winAr), more museums than there are people in Iceland and an incredible amount of history and heritage. im going to use a very limited vocabulary in this as everything here is really big and i only know a few ways of saying big.bear with me. Theres a real large cathedral on front of our hostel which bags bells all day.its built not only on the site but actually using the same stones as the pyramid temple thing which was there before.Montezuma sat on it.Bastard spaniards, thats really quite rude. but its beautiful inside so its ok. Not alot to say about machu pichu really.you are obliged by peruvian law to visit it and also the 'travelers code' insists on it so we had to do it.its not cheap but we're clever so we paid way less than everyone else in our hostel.rad. staying in cusco which is here primarily to get foreigners to machu pichu.so its well good. Despite beign incan and 'ancient' its actually only 500 years old. by now i expect ancient to mean at least a thousand years.i have high standards.ive lived i a house almost as old as machu pichu.win. the incas only lived there for 100 years until the spanglish came and murdered everyone to make baby jesus happy and the city was forgotten about until very recently. apparently 3000 people visit it a day and this ... read more

Copacabana is a small town where you go to see the isla del sol.theres not much in it except for trout and a cathedral. very pleasant town but its small and quiet. the cathedral is massive and Moorish apparently.inside is a huge gilt wall/altar thing which is awesome but i couldnt take pix inside as there was the weirdest mass going on. tape recording of some guy wailing and moaning and a dude on his knees in front of the altar acting it out. sketch. rented a paddleboat and made our way out into the lake a bit.its really hard work and were lazy so we didnt go nearly as far as we thought but it was funny.an excuse to drink more beer really. then we go a boat to the Isle del Sol out on ... read more
