Having the privilege of avoiding any 'real life' responsibilities (read jobs), one thing we really wanted to do was spend some quality time with friends and family during our trip to Europe. First stop .. a return to Hendrix's birthplace, Belgium.

My big brother Gordon and his partner Ingrid live in a cute wee village called Wakkerzeel, just outside Leuven (famous for being the home of Stella Artois) and within an hour of Brussels. With mile upon mile of green, flat farmland and quaint old villages with stereotypical wee pubs and shops it oozes tranquility and has a sweet country community feel. Of course every local area also produces it's own local beers guaranteed to knock your block off.

It was great to catch up, and share stories with Gordon and Ingrid, who are just about to embark upon a journey of their own. Gordon has just been comissioned to write a book on disabled travel in Africa so they are off next week to Eastern African for a few months of on-the-ground research. They both have a huge passion for African and have been there many times before, but this time there's some serious work to be done. Ingrid is a brilliant photographer so is taking her brand new funky Nikon to take some pics for the book.

And once again, we timed it perfectly. Leuven was hosting a music festival that weekend so we took a trip into this beautiful historic town to soak up the vibe. We met up with Christine and nephew Sean and put the cameras to test. It was Canon versus Nikon head to head ....

Before we headed off to Scotland, we went for a run along the local canal as the country woke up. It was a magical moment of tranquility as the herons flew off from their morning fishing.

All in all, a great flying visit. Even Hendrix had a great time, returning to his birthplace, we reckon it struck a chord with him ;-)
