So aftyer the trecking we arrived back in Bangkok at 7am on the night train and bid a semi-goodbye to part of our group (we were going out again with them that evening). We spent the afternoon in the MBK shopping centre which was a confusing version of one of those shopping malls at home. Vicky went off with a couple of the girls and I went for a wander with one of only two other guys on the trip looking at all the electrical stuff I can't afford! That evening we went for a meal in a bar called Gullivers and then went on for a drink at a bar on the side of the road which is a converted VW Campervan, its very cool and reminds me I must get a picture! We had a few drinks and a hookah before an unwelcome goodbye.
The next evening we set off for the night train down sout with our new leader and group members. W#e arrived in Surat Thani early the next morning and had breakfast before heading fro the nitional park at Khao Sok.
It was really beautiful when we arrived there, the sun was shining and
The River
Couldn't take my camera tubing so I'll have to stick to these pictures! the restaurand overlooked a river and jungle on the other side. There was a rope swing too by the small cliff face on the opposite side which turned out to be the centre of attention for the day and a half we had there. That afternoon after a swim and a go on the swing we all went tubing. Basically we sat on a rubber ring and floated down stream passing through occasional rapids and laughing at the people who were incapable of paddling away from rocks/trees in the water, eventually running into them. After about 45 minutes we clambered out and into the back of a truck to be taken further upstream so that we could float back to the hotel. It was really relaxing on the whole except when Vicky and Lydia managed to break free of everyone else and go9t carried down stream with a guide and me in persuit. They were fine though and I actually think they enjoyed it! That night foir dinner several people had the local Massaman curry which we had eaten on the treck, its basically a red curry which hadn't been too hot. Amusingly we all ended up suffering (apart from
Vicky). Some ordeded it as mild as possible due to their aversion to the curry and Vicky went for medium. I stupidly thought 'it was fine last time so I'll have it hot'...mistake.
The next day we went for a walk into the village near the hotel and had a swim in the river again, though being a saturday, the river was really busy and we hardly got a look in on the swing between all the other tourists and the lively locals. It was still good fun though and it was nice to have a relaxing day before our 4.30am start the next morning.
When we woke it was still dark but it wasn't so bad because I was excited about the islands. It took five hours to get there via Songthaew, bus and a ferry before we got a mini bus on the island to the hotel. The rest will be in the next blog...
