Edit Blog Post
ok...we have been in Melbourne for over three months and its now time to move on, so I guess we should finally start on the blog updates again!!
We are pretty sad to be leaving this place, its such a nice place to live, just so nice and easy! It has pretty much everything one would want in a place and is probably the best city I have been to...and that is me, the girl who hates cities!! The ony thing Melbourne and around is lacking is lots of hills, fair play, it has some, just not quite enough and its not too easy to get to them without a car...unless you manage to acquire one for the weekend!!
We will especially miss Victoria Market which we used to go to most weekends for coffee and cake, and of course cheap fruit n veg! We will definietly miss the house and Ruth and just the city in general - great place!!
So...we arrived here on the eve of 12 July, Ruth met us in our little Yaras that we have bombed down from Sydney in, we moved in to her lurvly pad overlooking the city (we were very
impresssed!) and then proceeded to stress for about a week about getting jobs as we were pretty skint by this point, but we both managed to find jobs pretty quickly and that was it for three months... Well not quite!!! I changed jobs after 4 days, I got offered the one I had originally wanted, so went against the loyalty grain embedded in me and made the jump to BlackRock to work on a contract basis. Darren got a job at Holden, so all was good on the job front, it was just hard to settle back in to the routine of normal life...well not so normal I guess, after all we were on the other side of the world!! The getting up thing was pretty hard and having to buy work clothes grr!! We celebrated Darrens birthday at the Red Violin and onto a cool club in central Mebourne, fun night!
We got quite in to running and decided to do a half marathon for enjoyment (ha) and also to shift some travel fat!! We spent a few weekends exploring the city, settling in n having a few beers. I was feeling a bit claustrophobed about being in
a city but once the real feel of Melbourne hit me I was soon ok and after that we have really enjoyed the place, oh and the sun coming out has really helped too!!! We spent quite a few weekends getting out of Melbourne and exploring the countryside around Melbourne, Matt took us and Keely out to Dandenongs to do the 1000 steps, we did the Sandy Point Half Marathon - Darren did 1:36 and I retired with blisters on both feet from my new super dooper trainers - gutted!! We went to St Kilda for sunset which was beautiful We went to Brighton Beach - yep you got it right, so many places same names as UK, Torquay was another one - a surfing paradise - where we went with Kee and some of her house mate Alan's mates, was a great weekend, Kee and Darren tried surfing, I watched from the safe land!! We got hammered in the local in bred pub - funny as... and then all crashed in a random house and got awoken by the others coming in to light the fire and the stench of burnt possum, mmm!! Also had the best ice cream
ever - Boost ice cream - mmmm
We also made it to Lysterfield Park for a chilled Sunday, which was rather amission but so good to get out of the city, but it took us about three hours to get there via train, bus and then walking about 3 miles!! but was so worth it as we saw a group of kangaroos!!
We sampled $10 steak night at La Roche in St Kilda and tried some of the famous cakes, from the floor to ceiling filled cake shops, it would have been rude not to!! We made it to see some live music at 'Hi-Fi' and then to 'The Corner' in Richmond with Lauren to see Vasco Era - awesome live band - so enthusiastic and experimental!! We went hiking up to One Tree Hill, then to Yarra Ranges with gorge gum trees, felt so tropical.
One of the top weekends was driving round the bay to Mornington Peninsula, Phillip Island, then through the Yarra Valley and over to Cathedral national Park (beautiful) up to Lake Eildon, on some majorly windy roads up to Mount Buller - to see snow in Australia - pretty mad!!! Awesome road trip
hummmm!!
And of course, not forgetting The Great Ocean Road, cheers Matt for driving us along here - was awesome and have some amazing piccys of the 12 (6) apostles!! Beautiful and loved playing footy on the beach!!
We competed in the city romp - Dazzler and the Daisies!! ha ha - Darren, Me, Ruth, Laurn and Lucy..we were making good progess until we stopped for pizza and a few jugs of beer ha ha!! great day! Then we went to the 'Night Cat' for Keelys farewell night out - great bar with live jazzy music - awesome!!
And now its time to leave, feel as though there is so much to explore, the city is always alive...festivals, art, music, bike tours etc etc, so many great pics and memories of sucha great place, my only worry now is that we might want to come back.....

Great Photos
...and we're really jealous. I don't suppose you remember the picture of the waterfall in our dining room - it's the Erskine Falls! Our friends live in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula and visiting them again is definitely on the agenda! Really looking forward to seeing you both next year. Take Care xx
