Kona helps navigate the Rum Runner thru the treacherous reefs and many sand bars on our way back to the States.
Thunderstorms every day, with fierce wind and bone chilling lightening strikes all around. That was when we realized it was time to take the Rum Runner back to the States and north to Charleston for hurricane season. So we set sail, dodged most of the storms in our path, and made landfall in Florida 30 hours later. That’s when we found ourselves back in the good ol’ USA again. Of course we experienced a little culture shock after returning to the mainland, but all in all it was good to be back.

We re-united with our friends on the Verna Breeze in Florida and hung out there for about a week before continuing with our trek north to Charleston. As always we stopped along the way at a couple of our favorite places, Fernandina Beach in Florida and Beaufort in South Carolina. It really helps to break up the 600 miles into smaller offshore sails, especially because someone always has to be at the helm of the boat. So we would sail for about 24 hours at a time, alternating 3 hour shifts thru the night, and typically pull into port completely exhausted. And after 3 overnight trips and one

day sail we made in back up to Charleston, our unofficial home port.

As always, it is good to be back in Charleston. We plan on spending the remainder of the season here, hanging out with our very good friends and outfitting the Rum Runner for the next big adventure to the Caribbean.

Glad you are back safe and sound and hopefully by this time, rested. I know you will enjoy being on land for awhile and so will Kona. Are you planning a trip to Kay's while you are here? The house is really beautiful and I know she has really missed you. I am off to Egypt and Jordan for 22 days leaving Saturday on a Grand Circle Trip.
