Siberian Huskeys
They re so cooool We took a flight from Buenos Aires to Rio Gallegos and there was definitely a drop in the temperature! On came the coats, hats, scraves and gloves, hoods up! We stayed one night in Rio Gallegos and thank goodness it was only the one night because there is nothing to do there. Got a twelve hour bus the next day, off four times for passport control, exiting Argentina, entering chile, exiting Chile, entering Argentina! Arrived that evening in Ushuaia, the southern most city in the world, 800 miles from Antarctica and the air had turned icy cold! We only get daylight from 10 in the morning to about 5 at night. All around us are snow capped mountains, forests, lakes and the town is a delightful town full of lots of little wooden lodges as restaurants, ski shops, chocolatiers, hot chocolate and tour agencies. Our hostel is amazing, really cosy and as soon as you open the front door, the heat from inside hits you. The floors are heated and the heating is on 24/7.
We went the first day out on a boat tour out on to the Beagle Channel. It was freezing but the surrounding views were

Across the Beagle Channel...only 800 miles to the Antarticsomething you would see in a brochure and it looked like what I imagine Canada to look like. Forested mountains with snow peaks...the water was so clear, there were sea birds everywhere and on every other island in the channel were hundreds of seals and sealions relaxing. They were amazing...so good to see them in their natural habitat hobbling around on their tails and lying on rocks. The noise that they made, groaning and fighting with eachother. There were lots of them swimming about in the water and they seemed so happy, making lots of swift jumps and leaps in the sea. Some came over to the boat jumping about and making groaning noises....so cute and beautiful. There are also huge colonies of penguins here as well but me and David were so disappointed as apparently it is too cold for them at this time of year and they have headed up north...have you ever heard the like of it...too cold for penguins...if the sea lions can stick it out, why cant the penguins? And what about all the poor penguins in the Antarctic...what do they do? They cant all

i smell fish...to stick it out! Well, anyway, it was a brilliant day out.
The following day, we booked to go husky sledging in the mountains. It snowed all day which added to the atmosphere. We went on a two hour hike in the morning through the forests in the mountains and so as we didnt sink in the snow, we had to strap on these huge snow shoes which were kindof cool. Felt as if we were on an expedition in the antarctic. The forest was beautiful, the trees all covered in snow, lots of rivers and waterfalls and the odd little wooden cabin. So peaceful. On our return journey of the hike, we noticed that there was smoke coming from one of the wooden cabins and to our delight, we got to go inside and sit by a fire and drink hot chocolate and eat cookies....mmmmmnnnn...so cosy...We came back out from the forest and we could here the barking of the husky dogs. They were there with the sleighs waiting on us to take us back to the starting point of the trek.

We sat back into the sleighs and the huskies took off. Eight of them managed to pull five of us! I couldnt believe it...they were so strong. The sleigh went flying around corners and over hills...so much fun as the dogs barked ahead of us....the dogs seemed to love it as well as they are so hyperactive....We arrived back at our starting point for more hot chocolate. We had the option of going cross country skiing but the snow was becoming really heavy and it was so cold, we decided to call it a day and head back down the mountain into town.
Tierro Del Fuego National Park and the Martial Glacier left to do, and then we´re catching a flight to El Calafate to see the Moreno Glacier among other things...
Hope everyone is having fun at home in the summer sun!
