Cesky Krumlov

My first view of Cesky KrumovMy first view of Cesky KrumovMy first view of Cesky Krumov

As I was walking down into town from the train station this was the first sight of the old city that I had.

I had thought about going to Cesky Kromluv, but after it was highly recommended by another backpacker I decided that I would go. It is this incredibly cute town in the south of the Czech Republic. The touristy part is the old part of town that the river snakes through making for many little bridges and winding streets around the river and you could get from one side to the other in 15 minutes if you really hurried. I arrived much later than I had wanted to because I missed the train in Vienna and they are doing work on the railroad tracks so I had to keep getting off the train and onto busses so it was slow going. I walked around the town and knew that I wanted to stay another day, especially because I got there so late.

The town has this castle that is built up on a hill over the river with this huge tower that looks like it belongs on a Candy Land board. It is painted with these yellow and pink colors that make it look so much like a fairytale. The castle grounds are open to explore and there are many

different courtyards, a bear pen (with real bears), a huge garden and many painted on bricks and designs. There are other churches and things but this is mainly just a cool place to relax and walk around. Which is mainly what I did. I walked up on the hills around the town and explored these areas a little. I signed up to raft down the river, but noone else showed up and so it was cancelled- argh! I went bowling at an underground bowling alley which a big group of us just ended up at? We are not really sure how we ended up there as it's not that big of a town, but we did. Mainly this is just a really cute relaxed town to walk around and do not a whole lot. I enjoyed it alot! And they had really good food all over the city!

All of the walls in the castle are painted like this to give them the three dimensional look. It works, but it also gives them another worldly type of feel as well.

See, they really had bears next to the castle!

You can see the river and one of the churches. I love the red roofs that they have here, they contrast the green and other colors so well.

This is one of the sections of the Castle Gardens. There were several families of ducks that lived here with the little ducklings- cute.

What a cute city Cesky Kromluv is. I don't blame you for wanting to set up shop, but we would miss you too much. Or would it be a good excuse to vacation there ourselves? So sad that you have only a few more days left. Love you.
