Sioux Falls

on the street
What was I thinking? Really! To get in an enclosed space with three boys? I lost count of the number of times I had to put the window down to release the stench that comes from their biological processes! OHMYGOSH! What is up with boys and flatulence? I have ridden in cars with girls for 30 years and have never - ever - had to put down the window to get rid of smells like this! But, besides that...

Today was a really good day. We didn't get out of town until 8:45, which was 45 minutes later than I was hoping for but still made it to Sioux Falls by 5:15-ish. And that includes the time we took to find a nice park in which to eat a picnic lunch. No flush toilets, though. Can I just say "ick"? Thank goodness for the invention of wet wipes and hand sanitizer. We drove through a little rain but nothing too horrible. By the time we arrived in Sioux Falls the weather had cleared up nicely. The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze, and it was about 70 degrees. Perfect for a walk to Falls Park.

Falls Park is really the one "attraction" I really wanted to see here. I'm so thankful the weather cleared up so we could enjoy it. It's loud and wet and really beautiful. The boys had a really good time jumping around on the rocks...not too close to the edge, though. It made me really nervous to have them too close.

You know that awful feeling you get down in the pit of your stomach? No? Well, then you're probably still one of the young ones! When did I start to get that feeling? I used to love to get way up high and walk at the edge of danger (literally)! When did that change? Now I get all weirded out to see the boys doing the same things I used to live for! (Sigh)

Anyway, the park was beautiful. We took a trolley to the downtown area for dinner in a diner either made to look like an old boxcar or really made from an old boxcar. Great chocolate malt! We walked around a little and came upon random sculptures on the streets...SculptureWalk! The one other thing I wanted to see in this town! I don't know why I thought the sculptures were in a park somewhere. But it was really great to just come upon them. We couldn't walk around to see them all (about 50, I think) but there are a couple that I fell in love with. The little girl and boy in the rain were my faves. I tried to get a pic of the boy's face but it just doesn't capture on film.

Speaking of film...I forgot to install an editing program on the laptop! I found one online and will download it but for now I will just have to upload them as they are.

Well, off to bed. Tomorrow - The Corn Palace!!! (Oh, yeah...and the Badlands!)

Those sculptures are so fantastic. The little girl looks as silly and as beautiful as I would think Veronica to look like....if posing in the rain and being perfectly still?!

Interesting
I find it very funny that in reading your text I can actually hear/see you being grossed out by the smells in the car. I guess I did not realize your trip crossed the globe. I thought you were just traveling inside the continetal US. Did you take you Canada flags to put on your packs once you leave our borders. Just say "ey" a lot and you will be fine. I hope you and your family and tag along are having a wonderful time. Be safe and Godspeed. Shawn
