Bike riding
This is me riding the bike that the Verdolin family let me use. The Sugar Loaf Mountain is in the background. Hey guys, I haven´t written in a couple days. I have been very busy. There is so much to do here. We rode our bikes to Ipanema beach and spent a couple of ours there just hanging out. Renato took several pictures of me looking at the ocean which was nice but now I have ample pictures of me blocking the scenary haha oh well. I tried out my new brazilian bikini and ended up showing half of Ipanema my left boob. Oh well, I will never see them again. The swim suits here are without a doubt smaller than my comfort zone is acustomed to. We spent the evening driving around to the smaller beach communities around Rio and taking many pictures. The towns were awesome. We stopped and drank coconut along the way which was amazing. I wish we had coconut stands in Canada but I guess that would be tough seeing as we don´t have our own coconuts. One our way back home we stopped at a market to get ingredients for the dinner that I was going to prepare for the family. This was good excpet that the ingredients here are very different than they are
Ipanema
I was watching the waves and the surfers at Ipanema. Renato took some good candid shots of me that day. at home. Cream here comes in a can and has the consistency of evaporated milk which makes it hard to make a decent bechemel but I manage by mixing it with some milk (which you buy off the shelf and not out a fridge which scares me). The family loved my pasta dish and they all had two helpings which was good. It is very nerve wracking making food for people you don´t know that well. On our way home from the market there was a huge rain storm and the streets turned into rivers and lakes. Think glenmore trail after rain and multiply it by a bajillion. We made it home ok but the rio drivers are crazy at the best of times and much like Calgary when it snows, Rio drivers go mental when it rains. Yesterday Renato and I went to Sugar Loaf Mountain. There are two peaks there. You take two cable cars to get to the top but we bipassed the first cable car and hiked up the first mountain. I thought we were going for a "walk" but it was a HIKE! So there is me, hiking up a mountain in my little mary
Climbing on the Rocks
Renato and I were climbing around on the rocks and taking pictures. This is us on the rocks. jane style CROCS! I made out fine though. My legs were very tired last night because we biked to the mountain to start with and had to bike home after our hike up and back down. It was amazing though and well worth it. And the hike was very fun. The crocs, by the way, didn´t fair too poorly. The rocks were very slippery and the crocs have awesome grips. We went to the Hippie Fair after lunch. It is kind of like the Lilac Festival in that a bunch of artisans bring their wares to the square and sell them at very good prices. I bought a few things but not many because space is at a premium in my bag. Then when we got home Annelise, Felipe and Annelise´s boyfriend too me to the movies. We saw Fracture which was luckily in english. It was strange there. When you purchase your tickets for the movie you select your seats at the same time. It aws kind of nice not searching for seats that were together and not having to save seats to go to the bathroom and get food. Today Fatima and I went to Maracana, the soccer
Brazilian Bikini
Be thankful that this photo is from the front. I know I am! stadium, and went on a self guided tour. We saw the locker rooms and the presidential suites and everything. It was really neat even though I am not a huge soccer fan, those of you who are would have been blown away. We then went for lunch at a very pretty restaurant that is in a very old building downtown. We went shopping for a bit and jsut hung out girl style. Thank god for french because otherwise we would not be able to communicate. Felipe had to go to the doctor and his appointment was in the mall so I went with him and Fatima to the mall. I shopped while they were in the doctors. I did very well for my first time alone on the streets of Rio. I bought 2 dresses (yes that is right, I bought girly stuff), one for the wedding and one just because I could not let it go. I am going to take the family for dinner tonight to say thank you for having me because tomorrow is my last day with them. I will write again soon. I will add photos later, I have to leave now
