July 22nd 2007

From Uyuni we headed to Potosí for a few days. Talk about organized chaos. There was something going on everywhere. There was a fair taking place when we first arrived which was cool to see, but if you think the rides in our parking lot fairs are sketchy, you should see the ones they set up in Bolivia. I would not have gone near one of those rides, mainly due to my fondness of living. We checked into our hotel and Herbie and I went on a mission to find a bank machine. The city was impossible to navigate. There were signs on every street corner saying “bank this way --” or “bank this way --”. They all ended up taking us in circles so we just asked people and found the bank easier than ... read more

When we got to San Pedro we were dropped off in the middle of a dirt field pretty much. We walked to our hotel and it was like being on another planet. All of the building were made of mud more or less and I would venture to guess that 90% of the locals were indigenous peoples. It was incredible. San Pedro has become a very touristy place so it was pretty expensive but it was a very cool place. Our hotel was a hotel/campground and we were staying in little mud hut style cabins. It was really cool but also a little chilly. We spent the day wondering around town and just basically getting settled. We arrived late in the afternoon so there wasn´t a lot of time to do much. We went for ... read more

July 4th 2007

We arrived in Santiago after one of the longest bus rides of my life. We got in at about 7am and checked into the hotel. I was feeling uber independent and I went and stayed in a hostel instead of the hotel so I went and dropped off my bags and checked into the hostel. I joined back with the group right away to go on some winery tours which I so cleverly forgot my camera for :(. I bought some really nice wine and was able t taste quite a bit of it. We went to Concha y Torro and then to a small moms and pops style winery. Concha y Torro was a big winery where everything was done by machine and the tour was very impersonal. It was good though because we ... read more

Peurto Varras is such a cute little place. Our first night we got in, settled into our hotel (which was by far the nicest hotel I will stay in down here. The beds were like clouds) and then went for dinner. Dinner was fairly pricey but I guess that is what is to be expected when you are in Chile. Dinner was really nice. I had a steak and just to give everyone who travels to Chile fair warning: when you order medium rare, you will get your steak blue! Herbie and I left dinner early and went back to the hotel. I was in a grumpy mood because I was a little grouped out but all was well after a sleep in the dream bed. In the morning we headed out to go horse ... read more

After Beunos Aires, we headed to Bariloche on a 16 hour night bus. It sounds like hell but it really wasn´t so bad. Well aside from the fact that I was coughing up my lungs for the whole trip which allowed me and those around me less than one hour of sleep. But that is ok becuase there was a guys behind me who was snoring so it wasn´t entirely my fault that no one slept haha. We arrived in Barlioche and it was dumping snow. I mean, there were snow flakes coming down that were the size of quarters. It was so beautiful but I was not expecting it at all. Bariloche is the closest thing to Banff I have ever seen. There are moutains all around, there are ski hills very close, it ... read more

June 17th 2007

What a city...! We had such a great time in Beunos Aires. I became very aware of the fact that I didn´t take the right kind of clothing for our trip. It is really cold down here. It is winter and I was under the impression that it would still be somewhat moderate temperatures but NOPE. It is snowing in some places and cold so I went on a crazy shopping spree to replace some of my warm weather clothes. So on the first day I went for a walk around the shopping area with our new guide. She was trying to show me where the GREAT shopping was but we ended up walking in cricles and getting lost for a few hours. It was really cool because we were walking around one of the ... read more

We went to Salto, Uruguay next which was a really small city. We took a night bus there only it was the most random trip ever. We took a bus to the middle of nowhere Argentina and had cabs waiting on the side of the road for us. The cabs then drove us to Salto and over the border. It was nice in Salto but fairly boring. We went to the thermal baths there which was nice. They were so warm which was good because we were moving into colder weather by this point. We had spa treatments done while we were there which was awesome. And eat your hearts our ladies, we paid $40 US for a massage, scrub, wrap, and full facial. Yeah, you sure can't get that back home. We went and ... read more

We left Paraty adn headed to the falls. And by little water falls I mean the biggest in the world Iguazu Falls. They were amazing. We went took a helicopter ride over the falls which was incredible. It gave you a really good perspective on how big they actually are. We walked around the Brazillian side of the falls on the first day and went out onto the platforms and stuff and just checked out the falls. They are amazing. I can't even describe how big they are. I was awestruck for most of the day. I think I took a million photos haha but that is ok. I will just have to employ the snap and delete tactic. The second day we went over to the Argentinian side of the falls. On this side ... read more

Untitled Untitled We were on a secluded little island that has only one internet cafe that is satelite powered haha. It was absolutely amazing there. This place is infamous for it´s beaches and I completely understand why. I was in love with that place. The first day we got there and we had to take this old sailboat style boat out and it was so cold. We got into town and just had dinner and I ate the most spectacular fish stew stuff. We then went to the only bar on the island and partied all night. We got lost on our way back to the hotel (can I please just tell you that there are 2 main streets in this town). I was really hung over the second day so it was a pretty ... read more

Today was a great day to wrap up my time with the Verdolin family. Last night I took them out for dinner and we had a lot of fun. We laughed a lot which is what makes the night so great. Before going to Christo, Fatima and I went to her work. She does art with some elderly people who live in a care facility. Most of them are quite mentally handicapped. It was so much fun. I think this is my second highlight of my trip. We painted stuff and did crafts. Some of them spoke french which was very good. There was one woman who was very sound minded and spoke very good french. She was my pal for the morning. There were 2 other women who don´t live at the facility but ... read more
